Since it would, in reality, be your personal vehicle, would they really come out after you if you just ignored them and kept on going?

With single rear wheels, probably not. You can expect to get chased down with a dually though, and pulling a tandem trailer with a 1/2 ton or more.

The thing is, there are signs popping up at MD weigh stations now saying "all vehicles over 5 tons GVWR/GVCR". That now includes modern pickup trucks pulling most trailers.

Crossing the weight threshold won't in itself trigger the need for a DOT number, but you still have to go through the scales.

Interesting. I have seen those signs, but since I'm WAY over that threshold, I never gave them much thought. I'm wondering, though, does that mean all the old, retired, snowbirds in their motor homes and 5th wheels have to go through the scales as well?

Have you ever seen motor homes going through?. I know I haven't. At the FL ag insp station I have seen them chase down a small uhaul van though. The signage does state that all rental trucks must go through insp station, but how many non truckers pay attention to those signs.

Just had a first for me, both the rand McNally GPS and Google maps couldn't find an address as dispatched. I had to Google the business name and navigate to a dropped pin to get there.

Sitting in Spiceland IN doing a reset in the middle of an interesting run. Picked up a live broker load in Torrance CA last Friday afternoon. Headed to Canton PA for a 7am live unload on the 4th. Nice run ... eh?

Would have been if the shipper hadn't shoved a 31k load all in the front of the box. LOL ... I hit a Cat Scale and had over 41k on my drives. So yep, back to the shipper. When backing in to be reloaded I ran over a nail (or something) and it put a hole in my left rear outer trailer tire. Good Greif! :biggrin_25521:

Of course I have my tool box so while they where reloading, I plugged the tire. Still leaks slightly but the Meritor system more than keeps up. They messed up the reload as well and now I was heavy on the tandems by 1800 at CA bridge. :biggrin_25513:

If you can imagine driving around LA on a now Friday evening, on a holiday weekend, ... yep, 7.5 hours all in a 45 mile radius. This reset was always factored in but that delay made me have to contact the broker and try for a later appointment time of 13:00 instead of 07:00 on the 4th. Still waiting to hear back from them. :biggrin_25518:

So while I wait I'm trying to find a place to get this tire fixed. There's a Loves tire not 12 miles from here but nobody answering the phone??? I have HT set for the 7th and if I keep this trailer, I'll just pull it to our shop to be fixed. But if by chance I have to drop this and get another, I don't want the next driver to have to deal with it. So I'll keep trying to get it fixed as I go. :biggrin_25525:

Shoulda seen that nail as you was backing up..and you call yourself a professional!!! Just messin!!! Man I know stuff like that ruins a day. At least you're doing the right thing and getting it fixed or trying to..instead of passing it on to another driver.

Very cool brother. Glad you made it past the river finally. :)

Don't loose the rent money. LOL

After 5 hours not hearing back from the broker I called them again. They say they're still working on resetting my appointment. Seriously? LOL

I finally got ahold of love's tire on the phone. They insist they have to replace a perfectly good tire instead of just patching it. Seriously?? I told them no. I mean the plug I put in it in LA is still holding ok. I told my DM if I keep the trailer, I'll just pull it to our shop and save us some pennies. ;)
