It baffles me tremendously that dispatch is not in a position to say "Pick up this specific empty, which we know is on the lot" instead of "Go look for an empty trailer. Good luck." I'm sure there's a reason for it that makes sense to someone in a position of authority, but it don't make no sense to me.

More and more I start to think that I'm just gonna bobtail to the local companies we work with and I'm going to let the local drivers who are getting paid by the hour spend 30 minutes looking for an empty. Because I won't get paid jack for that 30-minute search, but they'll at least get ten bucks.

I’ll get right on your concerns, just as soon as I’m able to put one of the worst days I’ve ever had behind me. Same issue as you, poor communication with the pertinent info.

Oh, the empties out by the road? Been doing that the last 6 months. Again, without proper communication.

I’ll bring these issues up, AFTER today is in the history books. Back to my unbelievable rotten day.

Are you on the WM board? If you are, this might be a nice sign of things to come...

While I am waiting around to get this 252 mile load to finally start my day... I TOO received a PrePlan for some 1200 miles load from PA to Volvo in MS. So now I am good for the next two days.... woot woot

Until, that is, when I get the call to swap loads with someone tomorrow night... lol

Not meaning you need to do anything “today” with it... just meant in general for the Drivers Committee... I assume that is one purpose that this group is assembled for.

Ya, focus on your bad day first!!!!

    Stay Safe Buddy!!!

I guess I can see why they can’t “assign” an empty to be used... probably so many empties being moved around between Yard Dog, Locals, etc.... they may not know what is where until someone informs them that #7123 is now at ABC Inc...

But ya, those same thoughts cross my mind too... one of the Local Drivers can’t buy shoes for their children now since I’m doing for free what s/he could have been paid to do... ;)

    “Think of the Children” :D

Y’all are too funny. The empties being up front was a thing, until they told us we couldn’t take them because they were needed for plant 2 or plant 1. Now they’re up there again. Last week they weren’t. Whatever, next week there won’t be any up there again. Over the weekend, there won’t be any anywhere. I spend most of the weekend looking different places for empties. Such a waste of time.

Are we supposed to be putting our empties out front too? I haven’t been but can adjust if I’m dropping my empties in the wrong places.

Or are those empties placed there after they have been check through the system, cleared/fixed, and then ready to roll... like what WM tries to do with all trailers touching that yard will be run thought the shop for a quickie...

And here's me thinking those trailers at the front of the dirt lot had been sold, given that they're parked right next to all the tractor units that have been sold.
