Greeted with this at the DQ this morning when I went back to my truck. And people wonder why we aren’t allowed to park places. Because of this “crap”! Literally.

I was raised to be loyal. I was taught that loyalty and experience are virtues. And like most of you, I remember a time when the expected career path was to spend your whole career with one company and retire.

And that's how I've always believed it should be. People who put in the time should be rewarded. Their expertise and experience should be valued. You take care of the people who take care of you, and you particularly take care of the people who have been taking care of you for a long time.

And it has been a constant source of irritation throughout my adult life as I have watched our culture transform into the complete opposite of that. Long-time employees are bad, because they cost more than new employees. We can fire you and replace you with someone who will do your job for a lower income. Or we can eliminate your job entirely and give your responsibilities to someone else who is already overworked.

Loyalty and experience and expertise aren't workplace virtues anymore, and it annoys me.

Back in the truck yesterday after a weekend with the kids. First load assignment: Deliver Hill-Phoenix to Pensacola. Has to be there in 23 hours from the time I get the load assignment, and it's a 25-hour trip. Crap.

Well, I do my due diligence, send in a qualcomm message covering my butt, letting them know I cannot make it on time but will do my best. Find the trailer, hit the road, and drive.

Seven hours later, haven't heard anything. Call my DM just to make sure he's aware.

Find out that I misread the load assignment and I actually have an extra day. I thought it delivered today (Wednesday) at 8:00am. It delivers tomorrow at 8:00am.

    Glad I called my DM.
