Whew! Glad that’s over. Had to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel this morning. Was stopped for 2.5 hours at Big Charlie’s rat hole for wind restrictions on the way over to Onley. Even when they were lifted, it was bad with only 1k in the box. Coming back across was the same. W-I-N-D-Y!

My company has asked me a few times if I wanted to go that way to get a load. I keep telling them no. I do tell them I will do it if they're in a bind.

That customer is very picky about the container. One driver had two containers rejected in a row. Its also a twenty footer which im not too thrilled about taking over that bridge.

I’m not sure how it works down there on 13, but at the bridge on 50 they post what they call a “limited restriction”, meaning at wind speeds of 40-49 mph they prohibit empty trucks.

The question then becomes what constitutes an “empty truck”, and much like 80 in Wyoming there isn’t a clear answer to be had.

I’ve crossed it under a limited restriction with 1000 lbs on board. It’s not fun but if you observe the 40 mph speed limit under those conditions you’ll have no trouble.

The next level is the “full restriction” which means no trucks under 64K gross. I’m not sure if that applies to flatbeds though.

I almost got killed today.....truck coming down an on ramp and I couldn't move over because another truck going a whole 1/2 mph faster is trying to pass me. Truck just keeps coming out at 30mph instead of stopping on the ramp til I go by.....almost slammed into the back of his trailer. Glad my brakes are good....I figured common sense would have told him to stop on the ramp since I couldn't get over.....

They have levels 1-5 and then full shut down. When I called at 4 am, it was level 4 and 60 mph winds. At 6:10, it finally went to level 1, then at 6:30 all were lifted. At level 1, all T/T can cross at slower speeds. At level 2, 40 mph winds, no T/T with less than 15k in the box. I had maybe 1k. I chose to wait. Glad I did.

He’s entitled to the right of way, for whatever stupid reason he may have dreamed up.

Edna has become a lot more chatty since her last update. She's been giving me rollover warnings, she's been giving me high wind warnings, and just now she let me know that the travel plazas in Ohio are all open.
