    Oh, one thing that really puts life in perspective. I'm not really a friendly person at 2am in the morning. This morning when I woke up and got ready to leave, I drove up to the fuel island to go inside and get a cup of coffee. As I got out of my truck, I was approached by a homeless couple with blankets wrapped around them. It was 30 degrees and they looked terrible. The dude asked me if I could get him and his girlfriend a dollar hamburger inside at Wendy's. The mood I was in wasn't nice, I shook my head no and went in. I was in the bathroom and this thought came over me about how fortunate my wife and I are, how we have been able to live the American Dream all these years, and yes, for whatever reason, there are less fortunate people in this country. I got my coffee then went directly into Wendy's and bought 2 meals with drinks for these two unfortunate people. I found them at the fuel island, called them over and handed both him and her the meals. They were speechless, I told them to enjoy them and may God look over them, got in my truck then left. It was something, for whatever reason, I wanted to do. Then this morning my wife calls and tells me she bought a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings for the food bank she volunteers at twice a year. Both my wife and I have a saying in our house, if we can help the less fortunate we will.

    Well, I am bumping up against my 70 as well. Heading to West Memphis with only 6 hours left for today so I will drive those then wait for the 11 hours to free up for me at midnight.

    @Anyone,

    General question about working the clock.

    In the above situation would you recommend driving the 6 hours now and wait to finish the drive when the hours free up?

    Or wait until 6/7pm tonight and drive the balance of the hours past midnight and then use the recap hours back to back?

    Basically do the miles in one drive or two smaller ones? Or doesn't matter?

    Thanks,
    MD

    In this situation it doesn't matter. I had the same thing to deal with last Thursday in Barstow. Me personally, I'd rather have one long day then 2 short ones.

    Guess it is a moot point... Just realized I am 13 hours away from West Memphis so it will be two drive sessions either way... So might as well role sooner than later...

    Input about General Clock Management is always welcome... Obviously still learning and very open to those more experienced than I.

    Stay Safe,

    Depends on how far you need to go. If you get back 11hrs at midnight and have 6 now. You can drive 17 hours. 6 now, break then the 11. But if you wait til 6/7 tonight even though you'll have more hours on your 70, you can only drive 11. You know how to work it. Me personally I'd drive the 6 now. I want to get back asap especially if I was headed in the home direction.

    Thank you everyone for keeping my daughter in your thoughts. She gets to go home today around 10.

    Thanks... That's kind of what I was thinking too but then hanging out at this Rest Area all day waiting for my clock seems a waste too... :)

    Much appreciated.

    My wife and I did meals on wheels type thing with our church in Kokomo IN when I was on recruiting duty Thanksgiving day instead of having our own meal, then at the end the church would have a plate for the delivery folks, it is easy to take for granted what we have, then one day you meet some one with everything they own on their backs. Your very much right puts things into perspective.
