parallel isn't required for the CDL is it now? It wasn't when I tested in 2010. Not saying that its not helpful, just pointing out that he shouldn't worry about it in requirement of passing his test.

I seriously wanted one of these when I was learning how to back. Trying to visualize what the trailer was doing in relation to the tractor was frustrating. I think having an overhead view of what is going on would be invaluable for learning backing.

Youtube also has some fine videos. Search for "alley docking tutorial".

Pretty crazy. Glad it wasn't a requirement for us. Most of my class would have failed it. I'm glad I learned. Use it a lot. Had a dock with a couple dumpsters that require ment to parallel last week. But I wouldn't expect a guy with 20 hours behind the wheel to be able to do it within testing limits/expectations.

Actually once you learn how to parallel it is pretty easy.. I was told that when doing the initial backing with the wheel all the way to the left, look at your landing gear in your right mirror. Once you can see the paint in the middle of your landing gear, stop, turn the wheel to the right and straighten out your tractor and trailer. At that point you should be able to see the rear cones in your left mirror.
