That’s my thought don’t use dexron use ford blue or new clear stuff. I’ve used it on oldtimers advice on my old 425 Cat (1992) Supposed to clean injectors. Lot of guys would fill new fuel filters at oil change w ATF sword by it.I tend to believe it would clean injectors on older Trucks judging by the looks of the insides of old auto trans - clean as new. New engines though, too much risk of damage. Old engines would run on anything.

No they had 6 cyl 2 strokes also 238 and a 258 I think it was . I blew a turbo on a 1978 238 with 3 million miles back in 1994 shot fire 20 ft into air burned a big spot overpass concrete. It still pulled at about 50 % power for 15 miles to the shop. They overhauled it

Before the S60 all Detroit series 53, 71, 92 and the later to my knowledge 149, were two strokes engines, of course Detroit made some other engines for locomotive and cargo ships, but I'm not familiar with those.

ATF got lots of dispersants in it, making it ideal to keep injectors and fuel pump lubricated and clean, but only in pre emissions engines, 2000 and older. I do have a 1996 N14 Celect + in my 780 Volvo and run 1 quarter of atf in every fuel tank after filling them. My mechanic who is Cummins certified for the last 28 years, put also a quarter of atf in the fuel filter when changing it, in my truck and in his pickup truck with a 5.9 24 valve 2002 cummins in it.
DOT doesn't do inspections of diesel fuel no more, at least that is my own experience, haven't see them doing fuel inspections in a long time, but in case they ask me about the red color in my fuel filter, i can show them the several atf gallons i do keep under my trailer, i buy them a 5-6 gallons pack at a time at Walmart and keep them under my trailer. The filter only gets red if you run a quarter of atf straight when you do the filter change, with the daily use, a quarter of atf in a 100 gallon tank, do not make the filter red.
I have seen also putting atf in motor oil just before an oil change, to clean the engine they say, but i do not have experience with that and have not do it in my engine, probably never will, dont know what that can cause, my engine is clean enough, last time my mechanic opened it, it show me the parts, were pristine clean, i do run rotella T6 for 30,000 miles between changes and do run a oil bypass filter. Recomended by my mechanic not to use lucas in motor oil, it just thickens the oil (very bad in winter time and by cold starts) and make more difficult the normal oil fluid in small oil conducts, making it more dificult to reach the top of the engine.

I95 North bound, North Carolina AG inspector dipped my tank for red dye in June of '15. It does still happen..

So Ford makes a blue atf?, I have a Sept. '92 build date ddecII series 60 & have been thinking of running some atf in the fuel. Would this age of engine be acceptable to do so safely.? Also could I filter my used engine oil & burn that off as well..? Thanks..

The adding of used oil, 2-stoke oil, etc is to help offset the change to low or ultra low sulphur diesel fuel. The idea was to help the “lubricity” of the fuel. Diesel fuel isn’t just a fuel it’s also a lubricant for the injection system.

    Several studies have been done.

It turns out the best additive to help the lubricity of ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) is adding biodiesel.

    Here’s a study:
