Im guessing the massive turn over rate and shortage of availible trainers is forcing
managment to stream line training to keep all the trks up and running. But at the same time roehls csa score is gaining unwanted points. This factor alone might change the training process.

Oh, I did add some and tightened it down. Just a personal preference about the way it was loaded. I just didn't like it. It had pipe on the rear half of the trailer and some boxes and a couple crates that were too far forward. I'm a little anal about some things and this just bothered me. :biggrin_25525:

No separate load training anymore. It happens during orientation... on the computer. Of course the instructors do emphasize it throughout the week and show the training trailers, but no hands on securing a load.

Depending on the person in may help you learn, but I always say that there is no substitution for hands on OJT!

There is NEVER any good subistitution for hands on training...EVER!!! because books and computer training only really cover the Ideal situations and it never covers the weird things that just happen...or strange situations where only experience can help..

Roehl is starting to suffer from the Time is my enemy mentality when it comes to training....They need to go back to train to standard not time...Yeah some people pick it up quicker than others...but that should be for the trainer to decide as well as the training department...other wise we are going to see the scale houses more and more and the nice prepass will be pretty much worthless as it goes off the companies saftey record

That "Cornerstone" is becoming a "pebble" from their aspect, but still expect the same quality and in many cases better quality drivers. Preaching things to you on the fly but having their actions speak differently.

Just don't mess up, you are a ROEHL Driver and we are bred not to make a single mistake LOL... cause if you do, or someone around you causes you too, It's still YOUR fault.

I guess that will leave it up to the trainer then to be harder on the student, to make sure that they are proficient in all the skills, or if time runs out, don't recommend them for testing. I am not going to put drivers out, and have them kill themselves or someone else, and have that on my conscience. I know they think that only the best of the new hires are supposed to get out of the longer orientation, but we only have a short time with them (the student) after that. My standard has always been, and always will be, if I don't think they are safe enough to be on the road with my family, they are not safe enough to be on the road. That is the standard I will continue to train to.

as near as I can figure, at this stage we're really interested in our trainers having a CDL.

I hope it hasn't gotten that bad. I really think that a driver needs at least a couple of years experience before they start training. It takes that long to really have the job figured out. I know Roehl will let you train if you keep your nose clean after 6 months as a new driver. That is kind of scary, it would kind of be like the blind leading the blind.
