Been looking around everywhere and it seems like there is not a lot of info available. I'm ordering a new trailer and am looking at disks. First off what is the lifespan compared to drums, also what does it cost for replacement pads and or rotors. I understand most of the drawbacks and advantages but would like some real life comparison info from people who have run both. Gonna add $3000 to price of the trailer and I know I can do a lot of brake jobs for that. Thanks

I was told $2,200 to $2,500 to spec discs, shop it, but yeah that will do shoes and drums a few times. A friend of mine showed me some discs from one of his trailers with 400,000 miles on them that had over half of the life still left in them. With discs the only grease fittings you will have on the trailer are on the landing gear. Don't know what new pads and rotors would cost.

We have two trailers with Disc's, pads ARE expensive, around 500.00 per axle, have not had to replace any rotors yet. I will tell you I DO love the feel and action/control much better with the disc's.

With all that said, I just ordered eight new trailers and they will have drums, only reason for that is that this particular trailer manufacturer would have to move mounting points to accommodate the caliper air chambers (auto haul trailer have room issues).

I needed the trailers yesterday and could not wait for them to "re-engineer" their frame to run the air disc's, IF not for that they all would have been disc's.

I am just so #### tired of drivers not greasing things and having to replace S-cam bushing, and having DOT tell me that brakes are out of adjustment when it JUST came out of the shop, (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr).

I grease my s cams and everything about every 5k mo and the bushings still wore out in 4 years. That's bs. Still all original s cams and slacks on tractor and its old enough to vote. Have you had to replace any pads yet

Yes, one set, BUT remember this is on a three axle setup S/A tractor and S/A trailer at 54,000 max, so ALL braking on that trailer is on one axle, I would imagine on a 5 axle setup 600,000 would not be out of reason. JMHO.

When I first time heard air disk brakes. For me, could that be a joke? When I drove 2015 prostar with air disk, I loved it, slows down smoothly, and shorter brake distance.
