Am I at risk of having a blow out?.

It took my 5 year old daughter about 5 seconds to figure out there is a major problem with that tire. Lol Yeah, better get that changed ASAP!

Is the tire going to blow out? NO, it's not. The tire tread is simply near the end of its life, it needs to be removed. It's not as bad as people are saying, you can drive it to a truck stop or terminal for repair.

 

Thats absurd. The tire is clearly on its last legs. It's beyond the point where any safety conscious driver would even consider driving on it. And any DOT or commercial vehicle enforcement officer would put you out of service no questions asked as the affected area of the tire has 0 tread depth. Look to the right if the damaged area in the picture and you'll see the tread of the "good" undamaged portion is already at the wear bar. Also, from the type of damage I'm seeing my best guess is there's a broken belt. If you hit a piece of debris you'll blow this tire. Even if you don't hit anything the heat and friction will open this thing up like a zipper in short order. If you think this tire is ok for service, even for a short trip you're crazy.

I see this all the time. A zipper failure happens on the side, not in the tread. Just an irregular tread pattern, I've seen chunks and weird wear. Nothing to see here. It's a split, not a bulge. I used to be a tire tech, I've seen it all. Now, I'm a truck driver. IF there was a failure, it would be UNDER the tread. The tire is out of round or hit something, that has nothing to do with a zipper failure or belt failure.

I was a tire tech, I'm not a full tire expert. The tire does need replacing, but its a farce to say its going to go at any second.

yep i agree that is a blow out waiting to happen. and if you work for a small fleet operation dont let the owner talk you into running the tire out. b safe out there

 

LMAO tell the DOT it's "approaching the end of it's life". DOT will park your arse right there.

 

Tire absolutely needs to be replaced, ASAP. That being said, it's not something that requires a road call. Drive to a tire shop and get it fixed.
