If the truck/engine is pre 2000, you don’t need an elog...just good ol’ paper. I run a 95 fld120....Cat 3406e...run paper logs - no problem, all legal
I know guys that do something similar...sort of. They run outta hours and just shut the elog off thinking they can keep strolling up the road no problem. They’re gonna learn the hard way apparently lol
Well not really the E-log device reads mileage sent to the ecm from the speed sensor. Most later ones are 4 wire 2 plug ins one for the ECM one for the speedo. Inplugging the one for ECM will derate the engine. Also your odometer and ECM no longer match which can get you caught any way. But all the e-log really needs are a few parameters out of the ECM. Another words if there were 2 one for the E-log only and one that actually controls the engine then its possible. Course a place to mount it, extra harness, having to keep the data port hid to the actual ECM plus the headache of install as well as anytime wiring is altered there is a chance of trouble later. I just can't see it being worth it
My Freightliner has one speed sensor and it is the speed signal for both ecm and odometer. If you unplug it and plug in a sensor that isn’t mounted on the truck you can drive till eternity and both ecm and odometer have no mileage gain. When you turn the key on the ecm sees the unmounted sensor during the self test and doesn’t set a speed sensor code or derate the engine. All this is theoretical of course because I didn’t try it because that would be illegal.
Play it safe. Take the week before during and after off to get some real fishing in. Just so happens that Blitzweek lines up perfectly for when the tarpon start migrating back up here.
No you can not. If the truck is not showing road speed it is derated pretty bad One sensor 4 wires with 2 weather pack terminals. One for ecm one for speedo. Just to clear that up
