Most all MROs handle things differently. Since I am not a medical professional I can only guess, but I suspect there is enough information in the PDR that a false positive on a drug screen from a legal drug that mimics a prohibited substance can be determined. That's if the MRO actually takes the time to find out. The OP was clear about what they are taking mimics an amphetamine, I am only going by what the OP has reported. Because of the danger of a false positive I HIGHLY recommend speaking to a Medical Examiner before getting behind the wheel of a CMV with this substance in the body. From my point of view, an ounce of prevention is worth the time and expense wasted getting your name off the clearinghouse!

I highly doubt it would show up as an amphetamine. It's an SSRI Antidepressant and there's tons of those. I see no indication that it would show up in a screen for schedule 1 prohibited substances, or any drug screen required by DOT.

Well, I did another search instead of just for the actual drug, but for SSRIs and there is a possibility that certain tests may come up with false positives. That's why they recommend you absolutely note the actual medication you're taking on the paperwork and take your bottle in with you for extra safety. You're perfectly fine to be taking it. Just cross your I's and dot your t's.

Can Antidepressants Like Prozac Show up on a Drug Test?

Here's the REAL problem; if you have depression that's so bad you are taking medication for it, what happens if you STOP taking it? Driving OTR is a VERY solitary profession, and is often quite depressing on it's own. If you are a person who has a problem with depression, you are a risk.

You're making the assumption that everybody on antidepressants is suicidal. Most people are just not as motivated, don't want to get up, that kind of thing. The main risk if they can't get their meds is loads being late probably.

As a 13 year driver using Sertraline, I have had no problems. But ultimately its up to the hiring company. Each one has a "black list".

Wouldn't that be private information that the company shouldn't have access to? I mean if you go to a doctor and get a drug test and it says that you're not on drugs, what else is their business to know?

With liability being the A#1 concern in America, Whitey keeps his hands in everything. Plus, keep in mind we are federal license holders, not state. Different endorsement, different laws/rules.

Most new drivers wait til they get their first check from a mega carrier before they start on anti-depressants.
