Well, my husband's version of a vacation involves gashing his arm open, then absolutely having to take a day off.....

Stick with whatever you choose,I have stats on 14 Trucks that will destroy your assessment of idle time and fuel consumption. Some are even 5 years old(lots of reading)

We only have 14 units which multiplied by 40 weeks
is mere chump change right ?
Guess those 3-4k unit fleets can absorb the chump change as well ?

Figure loaded rolling miles at 5.5 mpg with idle fuel gallon numbers(40 weeks per fleet unit) and see just how much chump change never hits the bank.

If you knew and understood the big picture your opinion would be much different.

By all means it doesn't excuse the Rat Company's from allowing idle time but irresponsible drivers have brought it on themselves.

This is Trucking and were not well known for 4 star accommodations :biggrin_25525:

so you think it's ok to treat a driver like a secondary citizen???
Last week I was in Phoenix, AZ, the gauge on the dash said 122 degrees!!! how much of my 10 break do u think I was actually sleeping? If u guessed none of it, you are right! Perfectly legal since the truck didnt move for 10 hrs and absolutely unsafe for me to be driving. BTW, I only made it 2 hrs or so north on I-17 into the mountains where it was 50 degrees cooler and actually got 10 hrs of much needed sleep! it cost the company and me 1 whole day of lost productivity and we had to reshedule the appt. Probably would have cost alot less to let me idle the #### truck in Phoenix!!! Would have been a hell of alot safer too!!! But what do I know? I'm just a stupid truckdriver that "cant understand the big picture"!!!

Your a second class citizen because you dont have A/C ?
Many of us ran for years without A/C and still did our job.
Maybe it wasnt as hot back in those days :biggrin_25526:
Your post is a clear testiment to the new generation.

    Sad isnt it . . . . . :biggrin_2554:

And then they made a bunch of new laws and regulations because people were getting killed by tired drivers in worn out equipment. Hmm...

And you probably whined the whole time yourself about how hot it was. The passage of time tends to dull memories. Hours of service were totally different/non-existent then also. You'd not have stopped in Phoenix but gone on up the road around Flagstaff where it would be cooler before shutting down because someone with a pencil was telling you that you'd driven your 11 hours and had to shut down right now, right here. If you like the "good old days" so much why do you drive a truck? Why don't you drive a mule team? If you weren't such a sissie you'd be a real man and do it the way it was done "in the good ol' days". Most people who talk about " the good old days" have selective memory. They don't remember just how crappy it was and they wouldn't go back to it for anything IF THEY WERE HONEST ABOUT IT!!!

taking that logic to the extreme, a real man shouldnt take penicillin since many people survived without it!
maybe we should forsake all modern things b/c many lived full lives without those things!
when.the.owners of my company turn off the a/c in their office and homes, then they have the right to ask me to do the same!
that's what i mean by being treated as a secondary citizen.

A good leader sets the standard to be followed and doesnt ask his team to do anything he isnt willing to do!

It may have been done different in the old days, but the sad truth is, that there are buglars, rapist, murderers, pedophiles and TERRORISTS that get to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In my opinion, a trucker is a hell of a lot more important than any of those thugs. Without truckers, this whole #### country would shut down. I am not a trucker, but my dad is. He works about 345 days out of the year. If he can't be at home, he should at least be comfortable at all cost. If corporate wants to save money, turn the A/C off at the headquarters and the terminals.
