I want to thank everyone for taking the time to answer all the questions on this thread. This has been very helpful. I start my course to get my Class A CDL at Blinn College in Bryan, TX on August 29th. Very excited but a little scared. I have been pulling horse trailers for about 20 years with the last one being 38 foot 3 horse slant with 12 foot living quarters with slideout and pulling with a Dodge dually, so I have a very, very basic idea of what it is like to pull something. I have spent 2 weeks researching companies that I want to go with since I will be a student driver (hopefully) when I get done the course. Con-Way Truckload is where I want to be. This is all so new to me. I am a female who at 48 is starting a whole new career. No family to worry about just my dog who will come with me after I get my own truck. My first question is should I contact a recruiter now before I start my course and try and get in with them or should I wait until I have started the course? Any other information or advise would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you everyone for taking the time to post. You have helped me make a decision that can be very overwhelming when trying to decide on what companies you want to go with. :biggrin_25519:

    Welcome to ttr
call now! if your school is not one approved by con-way you will have to go to boot camp. I start the 22nd at crowder. conway is paying for part of it. it takes some time for interview and background checks and all. so get the ball rolling.

good luck You have more exp than I do.:biggrin_25519:

i been reading some of the things about conway really good info. im headed to orientation to run with conway im going to columbus,oh and i applied for a NE position im comming on with 3yrs experience while at orientation will i be in orientation classes with student grads????? and does everybody have to do a 45 back on the road test??? cause i dont do 45 back... i do 90,,, its easier and most companys want to see if you can put the truck in the hole.....

another thing i would like to know is what kind of truck will i be assign a
RED CFI TRUCK or a WHITE CONWAY TRUCK????? IM NOT A FAN OF THE KW T600 i had one with a past otr company the truck is to small and i wound up with a crinch neck (you cant stand up in the KW T600 ) but i will rock out with a KWT660 there a lil bigger in the sleeper area.

why is conways orientation 5 days vs 3 days???? how many people are in a average orientation class ( 10,20,30,50 ) what year truck are in conway fleet 2005,2006????? ( how old are they )

i kind of surprised that conway is willing to bring me on cause i dont have a pretty DAC,, but not all that bad....but im on my way and headed to COLUMBUS,OH for orientation and i hope it works out for me.... ( that backing test sounds hard )
