So how many miles did you carry over from the previous week Joseph. Isn't your truck governed at 62 or 63?

Exactly. Amazing how we used to do it without the reset back in the day.

yep that's the bottom line right there. If the planners are brain dead it doesn't matter how good your time management skills are, how well you can work the elog to your advantage and how good your trip planning and routing skills are. If they don't plan you to maximize that time you have, it just isn't going to happen.

When we first went to the "new rules" in '03, I did over 3,000 weekly when the company allowed it: ie, give me the miles. I used to be one of those balls to the walls drivers before e-logs. Since I've been on them, I've learned how to absolutley maximize my hours, where I don't have to reset. I drive a slower truck now so its a little trickier, but it can be done. You have to want it, ya know? It also helps that the company I drive for had this down to a science. They know how to use you and knows what you're capable of.

That's this week. And 62. Thr biggest part is having the company be able to plan you according to your hours. If the planners are on the ball, its all possible. If they aren't, then you're screwed.

We run some good short runs to the Memphis area and back and to SoCal and back. For example, leave El Paso, TX Saturday afternoon with a load for Seimens Electronics to Southaven, MS for delivery at 11pm Sunday night. Drop and hook and we can spend the night on the lot. Pick up Monday morning at Pacific Paper in Memphis for delivery at Family Dollar in Odessa, TX on Teusday evening at either 5pm or 7pm (we usually get at least two loads from them). Deadhead home from Odessa to El Paso. Pick up another load Wednesday afternoon for delivery in SoCal Friday morning, often another Seimens load to their warehouse in La Mirada, CA. Then usually deadhead to Calexico to pick up supplies to drop at the Electrolux dropyard in El Paso. Drop that off on Saturday and bobtail back to the yard. Good for about 3800 miles with an overnight at the house between breaks.

You have to know how to manage your hours properly. As in use the recap. You don't have to take a reset every week, and it's your fault for running too hard if you do.

Do you color in a book(paper) or on an Elog? The new guys are not going to know what I mean, it says 3 years on my "Trucker" thing by my ID but that isn't exactly correct... I just use that as a reference....

We run looseleaf paper logs. But these runs aren't in the realm of impossible and doable with an elog. Its an average of 542 miles per day and our trucks run 65.
