Are you interested in van, reefer, flatbed? Your in TMC hiring area and they are good from all I hear, also have the choice to get paid per mile or % of the load which I though was pretty cool. with the company I'm with now I'm pullin reefer and I love it
I was in the same boat, joined Roehl in Jan 13 after being out of trucking since 1984. Roehl offers a very good CDL program in Marshfield, and if you were to ask me, I would say go to Marshfield! I researched all the mega carriers and quite a few schools in the area but settled on the CDL school in Marshfield. Roehl is competitive in pay for starters and the health benefits are pretty good. I too plan on purchasing a truck and becoming an O/O, but not before I complete my obligation with Roehl. I may even sign on with them as an O/O, time will tell.
I drove a dry van before , but would like to keep any and all options open . I have also looked at primes training . Meh at this point it's like a dartboard . One thing I think is to keep on saving a little more and just straight out pay to obtain the lic. With that being said I believe I would feel more relaxed starting out , not being obligated to the contract . All the stories I'm reading has me at 50/50 on the trust factor scale . I am real independent as I have contracted my own construction work for yrs . The values of busting my hump to make $$$ is there , but a yrs contract to some of theese carriers has me concerned . As for living on the road I do that now . And by far some of the rigs out there look a whole lot better than some of the hotels we have stayed in . Thank you both for your input . As I struggle in my decisions I look for the advice from the road warriors out there.
Day one of training you start getting paid. You do get reimbursement if you drive your own vehicle to school for the trip home. Save any toll receipts
Thanks I talked to Kim yesterday she said she was gonna start the process how long does that take. Beck I don't even have a cdl permit yet
Bout a week to get everything set up. You'll get your permit and they'll send you for a dot physical before you leave. I gotta say, Kim was a big part of me coming to roehl. However much money she makes, it isn't enough.
Just to be sure you are clear, there is NO Contract with ROEHL. The deal is this; If you attend CDL training at RDTC the tuition is (or was when I went thru) $1400.00 plus the cost of your licencing and the hotel. If you stay with Roehl for a period that you reach 120,000 dispatched miles the tuition is forgiven. If you leave Roehl before reaching the 120,000 mile mark then the tuition is prorated for the miles you did drive. When I signed on I told myself I would, at a minimum complete the 120,000 dispatched miles, that is the obligation I refer to. Don't write off Roehl, its a very good deal!
I am in school now. trying to figure out what company to go with and every time I look online i cant find what i'm looking for. I was wondering how long the training is for roehl. and what exactly we do in training. i was also wondering about the rider policy for them and how long it will actually be before you can have someone ride with you. thanks!!
