Don't know if they still do this, but Hogan had a dedicated account with Dollar General out of the Zanesville, Ohio terminal. They shared the lot with US Xpress.

I would appreciate driver's experiences good and or bad on Hogan. Do they have pre-hire screening tests like other companies have such as doing the 12 inch step thing? Also what is their equipment like? Are all of their trucks internationals with auto-shift? Thanks for all anticipated responses.

Hogan lost the dollar general account in zanesville, ohio a few years back to schneider. The only dollar general account they now have left is the one out of fulton, missouri, where they are the secondary to the primary, werner. Right now they are offering a $2500 sign-on bonus, 36 cents per mile, $70 per trailer unloaded, and $10 per stop. Hard, sweatty, stinky work unloading dollar general in the summer, and cold, icy, and snowy in the mo, ne, ks, ia winters. Still i think i'm gonna do it as the pay is around $1100-1200 per week if you hustle and work real hard, and the sign-on bonus is nothing to sneeze at. But be prepared to work through some serious muscle pain the first two or three weeks until you get used to it. A lot of puzzy drivers quit after just a few days instead of fighting through the pain. I read where one of the dollar general drivers at another carrier said you'll look great physically after a year, so much so that the girls will whistle at you as you walk by, that is unless they get close enough to smell you. You will definitely shower a lot and go through a ton of tee-shirts. When I did it at US Xpress out of Zanesville i could ring my shirt out after each unload. It was drenched. I lost 55 pounds in 12 months while eating anything i wanted: coke, pizza, ice cream, sandwiches. I watch my diet better now, but still need to lose a few pounds. This is the job for it i believe.

The company turns out drivers like a mill. I presently work for the Caito account in Indianapolis, In. And it is run by some thirty year old ex-recruiter, who dosent know anything, except how to lie.

Hogan, like most companies have thier pros, and cons...

    PROs:
Automatic Trans (If you like that sort of thing-not my cup of tea)
Decent Starting Pay (compared to Werner at least)
Decent Home Time (if there isn't an "emergency")
    Quite a few dedicated accounts

    CONS:
Idle Time: Yeah right... Get yourself a nice sleeping bag (-40*F rating or better)
Roughly HALF the load planners and dispatchers know their ### from a hole in the ground
No lumpers: Don't be suprised if a good third of your loads will be unloaded by YOU (and they wont give you advanced notice)

All-in-all, they aren't the best company I've worked for... But they certainly AREN'T THE WORST
