Are there any good OTR companies out there? "Really"

    No need to wake me up, I knew how the system worked before I started OTR. But after 3 years I got a driving job that pays by the hour.

    very good way to go...payed by hour or own one flat out right and come and go as you please.....

    sure unions are the answer, but they also have a bad rep. to them. i was in a union the transportation almalgamated union--i think that was it---:smt017...well they were quick to take the dues and gave a shoddy form of representation, but the big problem was when the union head took all the cash and hauled butt! after that chaos ensued and the new union head was as usefull as a spent condom:laughing-guffaw:......
    i don't think unions are the answer,and drivers on their own cannot unite, so the industry will stay the way it is and has been.
    there really is no money out here for what we do, what i make in 1 week i can make
    locally at burgerking:king:....... the worst part is getting stranded and they just don't care because the dms and all the "inside" people have absolutely no clue as to what it is to live and work out here, and to be frustrated.....:help:
    another problem is the economy and the state of affairs in the USA. alot of people will go to school after seeing the ads that claim BIG MONEY:Automobile loan: in this industry after only 3 weeks of school! so people say, well thats the answer, and here is where the flood of newbies stems from.....and the current tide of frustrations.
    i also thought that giving everything up and being on the road with my girl i would be able to bank some good cash, but the pisshole company that i work for has shown me that with them there is no $$$$$, so soon i will head back to fl and erase the thoughts of otr from my head,and stay put if i can find work now.
    there are way too many people wanting in, and this causes the training companies to take more advantage of their drivers than ever before.it wasn't like this when i was otr 7+ years ago, when i graduated from swift i was given my truck,a load and a farewell handshake....from what i read about them now, i am glad i'm not with them.
    there is money out here, but i haven't had the luck to find it, and i won't sell my hide for it........

    i was talking with an ooida rep last week and as far as they no statistics show what you are talking about...

    80% of drivers have 2 years or less

    15% have 2-15 years

    and 5% are 16 years or more.....

    We have lost the war to the marketing scam...it will not get better.....you said alot...the old time trucking is over.long gone...the hey day is gone forever..

    Go to florida and enjoy your life with your loved ones and pull tankers locally and enjoy florida...lol,lol


    they will market themselves out of drivers at some point.look its just like harly davidson.they had a great marketing sceme for people to buy a motor and a shwinn frame for 20,000 bucks.they are on e-bay for a dime a dozen...they are losing there azzzzzzzzz lmao,lmao

    I m so glad that i get paid by the hub. I write down the hub when i leave then when i get to the receiver. They pay me for every mile i drive there truck for, Its the only way to drive. No matter if i have to detour 80 miles around a wreck i get what ever i put down. Shore is nice.

    You know the worst part about the paid miles is, that it isn't even zip code to zip code.

    Example: pick up a load from dallas, tx. to Los Angeles, Ca. We all know that Dallas is peretty big and LA is even bigger. You can have a p/up on the east side of Dallas and have to go to the west side of LA.

    dallas to LA..........1431..........city to city

    zip to zip.............1489................

    ship to cons.........1502..............

    only being paid on the 1431you have just driven and worked for 71 miles and the time it took to drive them.........

    This is just a rough example, I don't have a written map in front of me.

    Their have been instances that map miles have been short as much as 15%-18% short of odometer miles. So just to put this into perspective, Consider this, If you are making $800.00 per week based on current pay, you should have actually made approx. $920.00.........times

    $800.00......times 4.3weeks...$3440. per month times 12 months...$41280

    Compared to...........15%

    $920.00......times 4.3 weeks..$3956. per month times 12 months...$47472

    I think everyone would like to have another $100.00 or so in their pay every week....................

    So who will stand up and address the issues that we need addressed in the industry, for money, HOS, quality of life............?

    Companies have the upper hand and with the economy in such turmoil it does not look like anytime in the near or far future that it will improve in our favor. So we have to suck it up or move on to something else, this is the nature of this BEAST..............

    Very well put...But again this has been the industry norm.If i am not mistaken i used to get payed years ago by the hub.Everyone did.

    The house hold movers guide started this trend and the computer era started this trend...and yes its highway robbery..

    I have been preaching this for years....

    Here is one better.I looked on load board and seen a load coming out of buffalo NY....It stated deadhead from elizibeth NJ to buffalo NY was paying 290 miles..lmao.lmao,lmao................

    In actuality it will take at least 400 miles to get there...So now the agents and brokers are skimping the miles on the owners...Pretty slick....I had to laugh because i ran dedicated from NJ TO BUFFALO for years and it took all of 400 miles...

    Well i called and the load is been covered.lol,lol,lol someone took it...
