Are we owner operators really stuck around 2 bucks a mile?

Here’s a little bit of advise.

I usually plan my rate out to a job so im covered if I don’t find anything else.

I took a PO 450 miles the other day at 2.xx / mile, not because I LOVED that rate but because it was 100% in the direction I was traveling to another job.

I even watched the load on the board for 10 days before I finally pulled the trigger as I was leaving.

This load was all cake though, pretty much paid my fuel ++ to drive 1700 miles bobtailing - not to mention the $207/hr they were paying me to bobtail hahah.

Yes a good way to gauge what is happening in the industry if you've ever watched that show on A&E on cable TV where these folks bid for jobs some have smaller set ups think its called "Shipping Wars" and the job may start off at say $3000 then each one has to bid lower to actually win the job, this is what is actually happening with general freight the more trucks vying for freight the lower the price to cart it is going to be, now if all of a sudden there was a stack of trucks off the road then you'd find it would be a bonaza for those still operating, just like commodities it all comes down to supply and demand for a product or service, an oversupply will always force prices down hill, where as a lack of trucks is going to force prices up. So yeah if your operating out of an area where there is a good supply of trucks be prepared for lower haul prices.

I noticed these disgusting little tricks started in 2008 or so. Finding a whole gallon of ice cream or an entire actual 16 ounce/pound of bacon is a laborious task unless you're willing to pay more money for it. We're all getting screwed.

My "Richard" ain't big enough to dead head near 2,000 miles...

But I'll be doing around 200 or so miles of deadhead Monday because you know, need freight to move to get paid 'n all that.

Right. Not a snowball's chance in hell would I throw a minimum of 1500 dollars away like that. I also would not ever throw money away gambling either but to each their own I guess.

Yeah it's not new at all. Orange juice used to be 64 ounces many years ago then it dropped to 58 now it's even less . Look at Campbell's Soup, it used to be 12 ounces now it's 10. I think was maybe 16 ounces several years ago.
