Moving to Springfield will not increase your chances at hometime. I can honestly say that there are only a couple times a year where I get a load passing thru without having requested to come on in to the terminal already. Even less times where I have anytime other than to stop for fuel or maybe a quick meal at the grill also, to be totally honest, you will not be home on the weekends weekly and you will not be home weekly. If you can accept being out a minimum of three weeks then you'll be ok. just note, policy is minimum 3 weeks. 21 days running. That's 3 days of hometime acumulated. So unless you have extra days accumulated on the books you will not be allowed to take the 4 days max allowed without some sort of approval from your FM.
We all go thru that same heartache. Its never easy to leave your family behind for long periods of time. I can say as a veteran of over 17yrs on the road that you will acclimate and so will your family. Just hang with it,get your year experience in and if in a years time you still cant stand being gone that much then you have enough experience to find a job locally or with a carrier that suits your hometime better. Sorry theres no real easy fix here excpet to tough it out,you will be glad you did. On the bright side you at least can talk on cell phone and if you have a smart phone you can keep in touch online as well. Both are things that werent available when I first started. I had to wait til I was done driving for the day and wait in line to use a pay phone to call home, I sure dont miss those days. Make sure to get yourself a good noise cancelling bluetooth headset for talking (f you must)while the truck is rolling. Its much safer.
Is 66 too old to start again with Prime. I came in with another company 5 years ago, did 2 OTR and left. Now I want back in and will need a refresher. Good physical health with several marathon medals, last 8 yrs ago.
If you are good with the physical, you should be good at prime. If you have been off the road for an extended period, you might have to go through some training.
Could a person go there just for their tank training that already has their CDL, all endorsements and twic (refresher maybe?) (if so, how would that work)
As long as your experience is recent, I imagine you could sign up for tanker without much fuss. You'd have some team training until you learned the ropes... no recent experience would entail a refresher course.
2009 was last time i drove for a company...... any info on the refresher? (price, time, ebrief discription, etc)
4 years? You'll probably have to start over as a student driver considering what insurance is requiring these days. Best advice is to call recruiting and talk to them.
Will do........ question though.... when you talk to them over the phone, can they run your mvr then, or no?
