Actually it's not. Under federal regulations interstate carriers must fully vette prospective drivers, and per insurance requirements ensure that anyone with a history of tickets and accidents in commercial vehicles are screened out. I'm sure this isn't you guys, however many folks who have these problems along with terminations for drug and alcohol violations try to hide that by claiming no prior driving history and periods of unemployment. If one of these types get into a seat and has a major accident, a negligent hiring lawsuit can cost millions... even shut a carrier down. Yep, Prime is rather picky with good reason. We don't base home time off of terminals... they find you a load home, you deliver it, drop the trailer where sales wants it, and bobtail home. That totally sucks, and I understand your frustration.
I may be totally wrong, But they may be cherry picking their employees they want use, and abuse. They may be cherry picking the superstars only. Who knows.
You are very wrong on that pal. It's for the reasons stated, and Prime has way too much freight to move to be playing stupid kiddy games with drivers. There are too many lawsuits waiting to happen with the wrong guy in the seat. Keep looking, you'll find someone who'll let you in.
You are correct about them cherry picking only the best in there selection process. In my orientation class last week they bounced 2 people because they hit a curb during there driving test. They weren't given a second chance, just told to go home and reapply in 3 months after they get more experience. Also, the one on one interview they do with you during orientation is intensive. They go through your background check, everything you put on your application, and driving record. The interview is about an hour long. They do call all your references as well.
IP is right, prime has to be selective in who they hire. You have to be dependable most of all, they can't just allow any knucklehead move freight .
I understand the cash inverstment part, and needing good drivers-I have worked in all aspects of criminal justice field for years. Like I said, each company does what it desires, to hire that which it wants.
Are these licensed drivers or students because, If you hit the curb during your exam, you come back the next day and test again. If you fail your road test three days in a row, then according to Missouri law you can not retest in the state of Missouri for one year. Doesn't mean you can't test somewhere else then come back to Prime if you still have a valid learners. Now if this is orientation for drivers that already have their CDL than I don't know for sure but would love to know where this took place because normally drivers are put on the simulator then they are put into a truck for training. This sounds fishy to me and since i am a Prime instructor and trainer, I have never heard this before. As far as the interview, yes they are picky, See what IP wrote, he is on the money
This was licensed drivers going through orientation out in Salt Lake City term. Two guys got bounced for hitting the curb. One guy hit the curb coming into the yard making that right turn off the main street in front of the yard. Though that corner looks like everyone hits with the size if the rut that is there. There is no simulator in SLT, lol.
That explains it, I don't think SLC should be doing this till they get to the new terminal, Hell, I hit the curb everytime I pull out of there
