ATA: tight rules on US truckload drivers speed turnover rates to 89%!!

    I agree, but I think some companies want to get rid of drivers that have too many csa points to keep the insurance companies happy, and yes, it won't take long for newbe's to start racking up the points.

    That is probably true, but it's not just for insurance purposes. We've been noticing that it's about the same 10% that aren't performing to expectations every month and helping grow our CSA numbers. They're writing their own tickets to another company, a handful of them actually do improve, however most do not/will not/cannot.

    Tell you what....if I ran the show I would see that all my drivers got every single penny due them when due without excuse.

    Then I would speak to departing drivers to find out what's wrong and if I could fix it...now or eventually. You can't fix everything today but you can head in that direction.

    I would continue to use cash to motivate my drivers CSA performance...... in fact, I'm going to start a poll.........

    That would be interesting, I'm ok with cash as a reward for good performance. From what I've seen of the industry, and granted it's a limited view, most companies focus on what you do wrong. Focusing on the positive is probably the way to go.

    I have no problem speaking to departing drivers, however I'm not sure fixing individual drivers issues would be the route I would head. Typically if someone has gone far enough to point where they want to quit, they're going to quit. You can do different things to buy more time, but eventually that driver is going to move on. I would suggest that it would be better to hear what the drivers complaint is, and figure out how to prevent that from effecting other drivers.

    Rebuttal: Most folks telegraph their punches so a listener is well breifed before the act occurs. Ample time to act.

    Regarding decisions in stone: true enough to a point. I've always fired several warning shots before I pulled the pin....giving them time to act if they wanted too. I'd rather not leave...myself.

    There are several common shared carrier issues that can be immediately fixed with some authority...like timely pay without excuse. ( make sure that driver gets all his money when due )

    Another fav: "shoot the whole pack of dogs cause one has fleas" along with other strong arm carrier tactics. ( Why not invite the drivers to join the team ? ) and I could go on...... none of this takes money...just intellegence.
