We are trying to build a practice area for my boyfriend seems he is getting his cdl privately, the only problem is we don't know how the course will be set up (distance between cones, truck starts an should complete, ect). Does anyone know the specific dimensions or have recommendations on how to set them up? We tried calling the state and they didn't know.
I am sure you can get that information from tne DMV or tnird party tester... It is good to check all your bases.... one thing to consider... some companies wont hire someone with a CDL and no Schooling... even if they ACE the CDL test... cause of the insurance companies. .. so, I would check those bases too... no point it getting a CDL and having to go to school to get hired...
He is only going to be driving for his dads company part time, that is why we didn't put him in a school. He is already "hired." I will check with a different dmv, but they just said they didn't know. When I called a third party tester they wouldn't give any information because they wanted him to pay for practice hours with them.
If you go down to the DMV and ask about the requirements for the CDL road test, they have to tell you. It's not a secret. Ask an examiner. Keep asking people until they tell you, but be polite and persistent. If all else fails, go to where they test, the parking lot or whatever, and watch them give a test.
If he has his permit get dad to take him out on the road and put him in SAFE real life backing situations. He will know how to back once he does the test. Im not sure of your state but in maryland we have to do a offset which is simply to the side and a parallel park. Also backing into a dock is something to learn just set up cones like a U and he can back the trailer into the space between.
That is a great idea about the u and cones to practice. They drive double tankers so they never back up, that is why it has been so hard for him to learn. I really appreciate it.
Oh what state is it maybe i can look up test info. He might have to drop one of those trailers to practice for the test
Utah and I'd hope so haha he needs to learn one before trying anything with two. I'm pretty sure for the test he only has to have one as well. It's hard when all the guys he drives with can't teach him because they never took the reverse portion. They have taught him well going forward though!
Good question,, I never have taken a CDL driving test,,got my Chauffeurs license back in 68 by paying $3 fee,,got grandfathered in for a CDL,, go to your local DMV that does CDL testing,,spend a few hours watching and take a few pictures,,if his father owns a company spend the day in close quarters driving around the lot..
