I need to learn how to do that. I’ve been using a dummy (mechanic) account to throw mechanic drive time there. I know some say to log off, but drive time still needs to be assigned to some account, or else it’ll be flagged by the system as “unassigned drive time.”

You are doing it correctly, and less hassle later. As you say, if you just log out then it will show up as "unassigned" miles later if a mechanic moves it. So best to log yourself out and log in as "shop" when you take it there. If you forget to do that then the admin can assign (or reassign) the movements to the shop driver in the back end later.
