Hi yes I am trying to decide whether I want to got to a school and spend $3000 for 40 hours of on-the-road training with help with job placement, or I want to go the company route and get trained by them. I have no-driving experience with trucks, I haven't even drove a manual car before so I've heard that they fail a lot of people in training with the company(i worry about this). Well if I was to choose this route to get trained by the employer, what are some companies that do this that I should definitely look into, also if you can, please tell me your opinion on whether or not I should go this route or I should just cough up the money for a school. The reason I have steered away from school so much is that I have come to understand that I need 160 hours of training from a school to even be considered for employment and all the schools in the Brooklyn area are all telling me the same thing (40 hours of training on the road to pass the cdl, basically they are guaranteeing that I will pass the CDL test at the DMV) so Idk I'm just lost please give me advice on what you think I should do?

All a 40 hr. school will do for you is get a job driving a box truck in the city making minimum wage. No decent company will hire you unless you agree to go through their training program, which means starting over from day one. Earl Henderson Trucking Co. is your fastest route for a trucking job. Don't worry about driving a stick shift, that will be taught in school.

Yes it says that you need 1 year of commercial driving experience to even apply to the company. What companies hire without any experience?

Quick reality check. Your not going to get training from a school. They will barely get you the skills and prep needed to pass the state cdl exam and get your license. The schools aren't going to offer job placement. They will allow recruiters to come and talk to you, wasting a whole day you should be practicing backing and shifting.

There is no guarantee your even going to get the license once school is complete. These schools are a business, and most are run very poorly to increase profits. Company sponsored schools are even worse, indentured servitude.

Try to find a union LTL dock to work at loading trucks. They sometimes sponsor.

Instead of posting and starting a thread. Use the search feature and read the thousands of posts already made echoing what I've just stated. Read read read. TTR has all the info waiting to be searched and read.

The website is not up to date; you do not need any experience. Call them on the toll free number.

They will probably Amtrak you to the school.
    Here's some items to take:

    steel toed slip on boots
    work gloves
    flashlight
    sleeping bag
    pillow

You will need the sleeping bag and pillow when you leave with your trainer. Use it when your sleeping, then when it's your turn to drive, roll up the sleeping bag and stow it. Once your assigned your own truck, then you can decide if you want to continue using a sleeping bag or switch to sheets.
I used a sleeping bag my whole 30 yrs. career.

They provide a hotel room and 3 meals a day.

    Here's a thread:almost to Henderson's cdl school.

Did you find any company-sponsored truck driving schools near where you live?
