XPO. Over time you will work your way up the seniority food chain and get more pay for doing less work. Food grade tanker has a sharp learning curve (no baffles).

Depends on what you are looking for. There’s good money to be made at xpo. You’d reach top scale, starting your 4th year, which is as high as $32/hr in certain locations. They offer a 401k with up to a 4% company match. You’d start out earning about 2.5 weeks of vacation each year.

depending on the service center, new drivers often start off working overnight and can eventually work their way into a daytime shift. You’d need to confirm with that particular center what shift they start new drivers in.

Depending how busy that center is, you could be working into the 60-70 hour range each week.

If the money offered by the tanker company suits your needs and they start you with a day time shift and work you fewer hours, that may wind up being a better fit.

Are you personally more comfortable in a big company or a little company?

There are substantial differences between the two.

Most people are comfortable in a small company. I don't think that can be said of most large companies.

But both have their pros and cons.

The real question is do you consider either of these opportunities your forever gig?
I know milk tankers get a lot of sleep. And some dock work can = it’s not a violation to work over your 14… long as you get a 10 before you drive again.

Milk is a must go gig. The cows get milked, the tanker shows up and the milk gets delivered for processing. (7 days/week) XPO will probably be 5-6 days work, you could call in sick occasionally !

I think XPO is the better opportunity if you want to stay put for a while. But I would probably get the year of tanker experience then move on to hauling fuel or something that paid better.

XPO for sure. They pay overtime, does the milk hauler? I'm willing to wager they don't. Milk hauling can be lots of long hours and weekends too. You might get home every night, but you may not get much time to spend there. Nice thing about LTL is that you can make good money AND have a life outside of and away from the truck.

Ok.....here I go..... Bear with me if you wish. Just started my 10. The Trucking industry is not a one size fits all industry. There are several DISTINCT "Job Descriptions in the industry, if you wish. Lets go over a few of them. The first one is what most people think of when they think of "Trucking." Over The Road Truckers. They drive a Sleeper Cab Tractor. and " Live in their truck"on the road 4-6 weeks at a stretch....then "home" for 4-6 days. I'll lump in " Regional OTR Drivers" in the same category. Next is the Line Haul/LTL sector. They "sleep at home" every night....many times that is all they have time for. Commute to work daily, work 10-16 hour shifts, usually get 2 days off per week, but, not necessarily in a row. Look up the word "Senority" if you don't understand 2 days off in this industry. Also..... in Trucking.... a day is not necessarily 24 hours.... It just isn't. The third Group is Beverage/Food Service. It can pay VERY WELL...... BUT..... It may take you several years to get "Seniority" .. .see above.... and the learning curve is STEEP!! If you are a 60 year old man like me..... You wont have a fighting chance. If you are young and "Buff" you may have a chance. Food Service and Beverage Drivers have the HIGHEST INJURY Rate in the industry. ALSO the highest turnover rate. I will elaborate later if necessary. Bedtime:D

A lot of Linehaul Drivers bounce around all week, sleeping in Motels. Some do turns sleeping one night away from home, home 10 hrs. And do it again. I’d talk to current Drivers at both places. Get an idea what to expect.
