What about overseas stuff? It's not CDL, but a friend saw an ad for a heavy equipment operator in Antartica.

Almost any time there's danger, distance, difficulty, or length of tour, pay should go up dramatically.

 

May not seem like it on the internet, but I'm a big time loner.
Before marrying the girl on my avatar, I'd travel overseas alone and get a hotel room. Most guys travel in groups or with a couple of buddies, but that makes me jittery and agitated, so I went alone.
Philippines and China are great for a single guy and Thailand also.
Watch some YouTube videos on how to enjoy the trip and not get ripped off. I never had any problems and always had a beautiful woman with me after I arrived.
Trucker friends of mine thought I was crazy doing that, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

There would be only one for me. Aussie Road Train. 10 trailers on 5th wheels front to back. It would be the ultimate in skills for me. I don't think I will ever do something like that in this life.

 

Perhaps you could look into some online courses that you could work on when you have your time off. Something you are interested in for a possible plan for the future. A laptop and internet would be a big help. Your $ being paid at the moment doesn't sound bad unless they just aren't giving you any miles.
