What do I get paid when I'm not driving?

A company can pay you $1.00 a mile, but if you're only getting 500 miles a week and sitting in a truckstop for free the rest of the time, it's not worth a crap.

Also, it would be very difficult to persuade me to work for a company that doesn't offer paid vacation and holidays. The people in the office get them, and by not extending that benefit to the drivers they're telling you they think less of you than them.

I'd say don't ask them anything, instead track down some of their drivers and ask them instead. They're like talking to a used car salesman.

"I'm going to hear a lot of information today, do you mind if I record your 'talk'?"

Not sure but this will make some of their heads explode... ;-)

Right you are driver. They have to pitch a sell, and a quota to fill. And they have been well trained in the art of delivering a sunshine injection in the blowhole. You are meat. A number. They're betting if you giggle during the sunshine injection that you wont make 6 months. So stop all the major career decision talk. Lets cut to the chase: YOU ARE TRYING TO GET STARTED. That's all youre trying to do at this point.

Instead of asking drivers what should you ask a recruiter, ask the drivers what would be a dealbreaker for them signing on. Then you can go from there. Someone mentioned idling policies. That would be a big one for me.

Ask them why they're hiring and always looking for drivers if it's such s great company to work for.

Fuzzy has the best answer! This industry is like "soup nazi" you get nothing and like it. This post will, or could take years to answer your question. Good luck, BTW my recruiter told me I can drive legally 1 million miles a year and get paid 20 bucks a mile and be home every day.....

If your new truck has emissions problems 500 miles away from your nearest terminal and it will be two weeks before it can be repaired will they be putting you in a different truck.

That's not a great question. Drivers ALWAYS think the grass is greener on the other side
