I run this weekly. 15 to 40 to 44 to 70 yadiyadi yadda just remembered u said no tolls. No tolls no trolls no sleep yikes!!!
Not being a smart guy, but stop & pick up a Rand McNally Truckers atlas. Better yet a GPS. Ask Drivers at the restraunt how to get there. The BS about men don't ask for directions, is just that, BS.
If you are going to Nashville you continue on I-40 to I-81 and I-78....... I-15, I-40, I-81, I-78 is minimal hills. The shortest route with minimal tolls is I-15, I-40, I-44, catch I-70 out of St. Louis all the way to I-81, I-78. That route is 100 miles shorter and the OK tolls are cheaper then the added fuel. You can even dodge them most of the way by running up US-69 to Big Cabin. But you have about three routes you can't mess up. Just don't stop in Vegas and spend all your money.
I really can't believe there is a 4 page discussion on this. I'll agree though that it would have been nice if the OP would have given us his destination city. The thread title says New Jersey, but in the post it says New York. Anyway, for a rookie with little experience, and since he/she stated they wanted to avoid the mountains, there are really only two good ways to get to New Jersey from Southern California. I used Google Maps and used Newark NJ as the destination point (just for reference). I also routed him straight up to I-80 in Youngstown so as to avoid the PA Turnpike on option #1. They would be: #1) I-15 to I-40 to I-44 to I-70 to I-71 to I-76 to I-80 or #2) I-15 to I-40 to I-81 to I-78
Like Voyager said--Wow all this--but--get to 40--54-61-50-35-70-71-76-80--only 2 ways with with NO tolls at all-(at least to GWB)-the other is 40 all the way to 81-to 78 then 287 80--but 40 81 is longer--and personally after all these years--I hate 40 east of Armadillo---but thats just me....... and of course WE still DONT KNOW--where you are really starting from and ending at.... and thats some useful information to have........
40 to 81 to 78 or up to 80.......No tolls until NY. Or 40 and work your way up to 70 then up to 78 or 80.... Packards route works good too....That light of load the more direct route is going to work out best on fuel.
This is hilarious, OP said no hills and everyone sends him I-40 (just a couple hills in Az. right ?) one or two in N.M./Mo.
