Well I got the new amp in today. Looks nice and snazy. The instructions are pretty simple. I thought it only had 2 switches but infact it has 3. on/off, am/ssb, and pre amp on and off. Not sure what to set the pre amp switch to. anyone got and idea?

One other thing it says the power should be connected straight to the battery and that the power cord should be no longer then 3 meters. Yes meters. That alittle less then say 9 feet which is no problem. I don't know if I will wire straight to the battery though. I am not going to be pushing it too hard with only 2 watts going into it and I prefer to keep my ground as short as posible. So If I am under standing everything right I will have a 20 watt dead key and roughly 60 pep with a 2 watt dead key and around 30 watts of swing. Just need to figure out what the pre amp switch does and if I need it on or off.

The Pre-Amp is supposed to increase the incoming signal. On the RM line and other makes of cheap mass produced amplifiers they will also increase all the static and other noise so most of the time you gain nothing. They are very broad banded and will increase all signals, not just on your CB, it isn't uncommon to hear shortwave broadcast station while the pre-amp is on.
