Timely subject RSQ32, as my "craigslist special" $30 mini-fridge died today after 5 months of bouncing in the truck.:biggrin_2556: I think I'm going to kill this one next: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-3.2-cu.-ft.-2-Door-Refrigerator-and-Freezer/15162473  I'm going to spring for the $25 extended warranty and laugh when I haul it's dead carcass back to the store in a few months. :evil3: Good idea, Papa Murphy, on the sponge! :biggrin_25514: I'm defiantly gonna try it. I can't help you much on the mounting. Mine bounced on the passenger seat next to me and I could hear it's compressor slamming when I went over bumps. (I used a cheap ratchet strap to hold it in the seat.) This new fridge is a good 6" taller than the old one. I'm going to pull the passenger seat out and bolt it to the box the seat used sit on. Otherwise, it'll block my view of the mirror. I've learned I'd much rather have the additional freezer space to bring leftovers from home.

Get the extended warranty but you will not need to haul it back to the store. They don't exchange. Toy will call the warranty people and they will email you a gift card. I have done this a couple of times with Coleman coolers and an $8.00 warranty.

So what happens to the old unit? Do they just take your word that it died and leave it to you to dispose of it?

This is the warranty company affiliated with WalMart that you're speaking of, right?

If its small they have you mail it back to them and they provide the mailing label and shipping costs. They let me keep my coolers. I had to send them copies of my receipts. It was really pretty painless. The first time I thought it was like you suggested. I pulled my cooler out of the truck and took it to 2 Walmarts before finding one that had them in stock. After dragging it inside to the Customer Service desk they told me how it works. No way they will want you to return something that will cost the store money to dispose of.

Well, at least it isn't the whole routine of "mail us the unit, we'll look at it, then mail one back to your home" when I'm rarely home.

Bunge straps will not hold it. Mine is on top bunk with a rachet strap wrapped around it and the top bunk. Will not move. Bunge straps a bad idea.

How do you strap it specifically? Do you have to un-strap it to open the fridge door(s)?

One idea I have is to set the fridge on the upper bunk and turn the fridge 90° so the doors open toward the center of the truck. Then loop the ratchet straps vertically around it (up over it, down under it, back over it, then down the back of the upper bunk, across the bottom and back up again.) Two straps like that would be good for front-back movement, and perhaps if I could affix some sort of strap guides to the fridge in a few places with some type of metal adhesive (JB-Weld?), it would also be reasonably secure to lateral (L-R) forces.

One problem I see with that though, is it would require about 20-21 feet of ratchet strap by my calculations. The ones I'm thinking of at Harbor Freight are 14 feet.

Not a Cascadia,.. but I have a Black and Decker 'Dorm' style,.. I call it Hotel style mini fridge.

Anyway,.. in my Columbia I removed the bottom cabinet behind the driver seat and set it on the floor there. I have a microwave on top of it. Using Gorilla tape to secure the Microwave to the top of the fridge as they are the same width. I have no issue with the fridge moving or sliding. It stays put very nicely.

I see you're thinking of mounting it sideways which seems like a decent idea. If you mount it front facing I would definitely do what the other guys are saying and wrap around the doors. Even if the fridge stays put I would hate to have a PB&J sammich hit me in the head on a hard brake.

Does anyone have any pics of how they put one on the top bunk and secured it? Did you put the fridge directly on top of the mattress?
