Hi JD, have a question for Ya after seeing Ur pics of the MTP 4004

Googled it up and got to see a Yo Tube video of it transferring asphalt to a paver, seemed like the dump could've just dumped directly into the pavers hopper

Scratching my head over this machines purpose.....please explain

    Thanx

I have personally never seen one let alone seen one used but from watching the video the advantage I see is that the trucks do not drive on the tac oil that they lay down before putting down the asphalt.

Around here we use belly dumps and they use what is called here a cold cow. This machine picks up the dumped asphalt and feeds it into the paver.

This is a concrete placer, I'm not sure if it will handle asphalt or not. We used it with our slip form paver when we had it, with this you could put out your dowel baskets ahead of the paver and still get your material in place. It works good for pacing on one side of a street and bringing trucks on on the other. We have been using it to place topsoil in the center of a boulevard type street it works pretty good for that.

A benefit that I was told, For the ones that can do hot asphalt, is a buffer between the trucks and the paver. So the paver can work more consistently, not having to push, or pause for the truck, and allowing more time to change trucks by having more product in the machine. Also like paving shoulders where the truck can't always get square with the paver.
Atleast that's what the blacktop guys I know have told me... I hate the stuff!

Your booster is fixed?? Wow that's got to be tough on equipment and even tougher on asphalt when loaded. Would you mind posting a picture of the back end especially the booster beam.

It's hard to believe it doesn't steer but it might not, All had a 9 axle that you could lock the stinger and unlock the axles and they steered like a steerable pusher. We never used it and eventually they took those axles off but I have seen them. Something has to steer or it's going to be rough on equipment.

The booster is fixed but the axles each steer individually under it. There is an air chamber on each one to lock them straight when backing up.

Okay I didn't know trailking built anything with steerable axles. I used to pull a peerless that had the same setup only they dumped the weight off in a corner. Watch your corners as that booster will actually push the main trailer out and around the corner way wider than you think. With the steerables you don't really have all the tail swing you think it just looks that way.
