Far lower load height. Less tare weight. When used with rubber tired equipment it stays secured better, less give axle to beam.

Like what? I'm not coming up with anything, and have never pulled anything heavy enough to have come up with that idea. Thanks in advance.

I cut an overload spring in half at the centerbolt & had 2 leafs bout 1/2 thick on one end and tapered to a point on the other bout 18" long. I started using them winching on antique tractors, when tracks were froze up or when one steel part had to slide over another. used them on top of hardwood under Cat769 kingpins alot. They came in handy mostly when winching stuff onto the trailer. But I carried a lot of stuff with me all the time, rig axe, nails, a couple foot long pieces of 2" pipe, 4x6s, etc,a rolling junk yard. But I hauled local mostly & 5-6 moves a day were not uncommon, always seemed to need this stuff.

Heavy Hammer I notice you use 3/8 chains instead of 1/2 inch chains. Why? Easier to throw more lighter chains ? Just curious.

Cetane+ beat me to it! but yeah my deck has extra x-members for a full rating in high concentration (contract we had at the time of building it) so my rail is *5500# lighter then my deck. That and once I got used to & comfortable with loading a rail, I far prefer it for load stability and security. I find it way easier and more options to tie down my loads. Personal preference, ymmv.
*5500# is just for the 20' main, I do most of my work on 27 or 30', which is about an 8000# savings in tare weight! Rather significant when you start paying ton/mile for all those permits...
I don't care who you are, that's funny right there! I'm being sarcastic, I don't own a 3/8" chain. Nope, not one...all those are 1/2" G70 dude, it's all I own, use, or endorse for H/H.

and yes, I really do hang that many 1/2" chains on my loads...

Here's a Hitachi 350 with a shear head attachment. Had the stinger along just for the ride (had a heavier load after, so I was too lazy to unhook the rehook it back up....LOL). And yes, for those of you with a sharp eye, that is a FL DOT chicken coop in the background! Unfortunately for the nice scalemaster, all of the 'ol Mudguppy's papers were in order, so no violations today!!:biggrin_25523:

This was the next load I hauled, after a little helpful tug from a D9- (it's a Morbark track grinder, grossed @ 156+k)

Out of the fry pan, into the fire (new jobsite). After unload, had to back out about 500 yards onto a 2-lane, 60mph highway, with no spotters.....:biggrin_25510:

Did that machine have the nickname "The Beast" ? I moved one very similar out here on the west coast. Remote control loading.

Quite possibly, but I've not heard it. And yes. it does use a remote. Our company actually has 3 of them, one over 10 years old that was recently rebuilt basically from the ground up. When I went to load it for the first time afterwards, after I positioned it right where I wanted and went to cut the motor on the side of the machine, the remote malfunctioned and the machine walked itself to one side where it stopped with about 85% of the machine setting just on the outriggers on one side! After I finally got it stopped and used the emergency shut down on the remote, I had to take a break to change my boxers!!

From that day forward, I always use the emergency shutoff on the remote on every machine. No exception.
