I watched a guy blow a rear tire, pulled off to check, then continued on to the T/S 20 miles up the road. They told him it would be at least 4 hours for them to get to his trailer and change out the tire. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! He then left with the flat to the next T/S....at Eloy T/A, we followed the asphalt cut line for at least 3 miles into the T/S....he had lost the inside tire, the rim was ground down to flat....I guess he needed the line in the asphalt to find his way back to I-10.
Knowingly have a flat...get it fixed before you continue on!NavigatorWife, Spamalot and allniter Thank this. -

It's funny. You'll giggle.Rogerthat Thanks this. -
Do the math on 98k on 6 vs 80k on 5! I'll wait while you grab a calculator......................
I blew one with 87k net 120,000 gross on 5 axles and I drove 10miles to a lot and called MY shop to bring me one and I changed it. Another blew with 80k net on 7 axles and I drove 30 miles and also changed it myself. The only one I called a tire shop to change was when a piece of my steering tire came off and I was over 100 miles from my shop. This isn't my first rodeo, I have had my share of idiotic service calls by drivers. I had one call a wrecker because of a coolant leak.........that was a $500 bill for a loose hose clamp. Every situation is different but for some of you to shut down everything for something as simple as a flat tire is amazing. Please post your names and addresses so I will be sure to never hire you if you over react to simple stuff.SL3406 Thanks this. -
some ompanies dont allow you to move the truck due to safety. But I try toget of the main road so when road service comes out traffic is not a factor. Its safer for the tire guy and me and my truck .

You do the math...I don't need to, especially since I don't attempt to change the discussion regarding 5 or 6 since the information was of "a 3 axle trailer"...no mention of the tractor, 2 axle, 3 axle, 3 axle w/tag, or any other combination out there! Now why would any driver (no matter the experience) want to drive for someone who has a complete disregard for rules, regulations, or laws...as you have implied?
Like I said before...pay attention to the discussion, no need to insert your assumption on information withheld. -
To the OP:
This isn't a judgement but from what you just posted above,i have 2 remarks:
1°you have a lot off blown tyres, are they virgins or re threads?
If they are virgins that you have blowing...........maybe time to look into buying a tyre measuring system?
2°the maths say that if you keep driving on 1 tyre when you blow the other.............there will come a time you will have the second one also blow out.
Not something you want to have happen on a aluminum tanker.(not talking fire but everything around the tyres, would be a very expensive repair, more then the load brings in)
You said it yourself that the remaining tyre was hot.
So the argument about more axles doesn't wash............sorry.(having 20 cold tyres and 1 hot)
If the remaining tyre is running hot..........it is running hot.end off story.(FYI i would have kept the speed below 55)otherhalftw and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
all the way to the scene of the crash. I'm just kidding. Get it fixed!
FLATBED, NavigatorWife, Crazy37 and 1 other person Thank this. -
