Thanks, guys. Have been debating on getting a recon ISX when the time comes for it. Have been debating having my ECM now reprogrammed for EGR delete and such. May delay that idea till get the recon engine. Who knows, may not be able to wait that long.

Ok, so how much $$$-wise would it be to install say a remanufactured isx with computer?

    a) Let's assume the truck DID NOT originally come with the isx or any cummins for that matter.

    b) Generally what is involved in the whole process. Especially with the computer and electronics---is it really plug and play?

P.S. i do not nessesarily appreciate re-titling of my threads. However, in this case it seems accurate. But still.

Usually when we replace an engine the min time is about 24 hours to R&R. Once you pull an engine you will usually find all sorts of extras, like mounts, clutch, fuel lines, rad, hoses and so on. All the different engines have their own type OEM harness connection to the ECM. So installing an ISX where there use to be Detroit won't work. The harness connection will need to be rewired, this will be labor intensive. I am not aware of any type of adaptor harness.

Yep, w900 beat me to the punch. I was going to recommend Mawk as well. They can fashion a wiring harness to match up just about any engine to any chassis.

You get the joy of keeping your old one. But I'm sure you can ask them to put a new one in. They will more than oblige.

The shop at home keeps reman's enginges in stock. He said as long as your core is good he can swap out a motor for thousands less than rebuilding it.

Was told just the opposite this past week by three different facilities. Six to Seven thousand more to swap motors out.

I have a 2004 ISX with the EGR on it. How hard would it be to replace it with a pre EGR ISX engine? Was looking into doing this when this motor is ready to expire.

Mine was just over $25, 000...just last month. Does anyhone know how much an ISX in-frame costs?
