it's really a negative free. =You are paying them to haul their freight. Bow down to CR-Fleece!

I honestly try to stay away from the fleecers (CRE, New Prime, JB-Fleece) -Bizarre people that work way too hard to put themselves under more debt. Trucking is hard enough as it is, with a Fleece you are almost guaranteed to fail (now). I feel most fleece ops are just taking advantage of the niceness of most truck drivers.

Would you post your actual numbers
    Your actual cost's verses income
    Did you take pay advances
This would be helpful to any other member who thinks its possible to make it work
And that your not just a disgruntled driver spreading BS
    Thanks

Yep. But , there is hope! Our government will eventually get around to disallowing these lease arrangements as independent contractors and re clasify them as employees and kill the whole thing off as a part of their quest to put small businesses out of business. They've begun with the AGs of several states filing suits against FEDEX to change their contractor statuses to employees.

you classify fedex as a "small" business???

when a company (and I've seen ads on craigslist) wants you to work for them (and them EXCLUSIVELY,) forbidding you to work for any one else, doing what they tell you to do, when they tell you to do it, and especially if THEY are providing the vehicle/tools/or whatever to do it, you ARE an employee. and it IS nothing more than a tax evasion scam.

No I don't. They have 13,000 contractors that are being challenged. They are non union so IMO that's why they are getting it 1st. Then Uncle Sam can kill 2 birds with one stone and get a non union company as well as get a precedent set about contractor - employee relationships in the trucking industry. When the contractors become employees the union can then come in and try to organize the employees. It was just a statement of fact that the govt is anti small business. When they beat a company like FEDEX then they can beat most anyone.

Chief is right. If they demand exclusivity, they are legally classified as employers.
There already IS a precedent set about employer/employee relationships. It is defined by the IRS.
There have been several discussions in this forum about this.

I think there is a VERY big difference between the threads topic and this. The big scam these large trucking companies like CR, Prime and others do is different than "Joe Truck Driver" buying his very own truck under his name and his financing (whether bank or personal cash). As most of us know there is a lot more to owning a truck than having a set of keys and monthly payment. These lease programs take drivers with no credit, no cash and sometimes no business sense and give them their very own shinny truck. But the big problem is the trucking company is the bank! And also the one calling the shots! And in some cases you have to make weekly or bi-weekly payments. It is a complete win/win for the company and a loosing battle for the driver aka O/O. Or another way to look at it a massive "smoke and mirror" game.

The way I understand FedEx and other true O/O lease backs they own their trucks and do not self finance their equipment to their drivers and call them independent contractors.

Maybe I am wrong and do not fully understand... but this is what I get out of the two situations.

That is true. It also determines that the employee is to receive benefits as well.

Of course the lease owner options are geared for the house, that is the best way to move a lot of freight cheaply is to run hundreds of student through a month at a time and feed the miles to those trainers with lease owner options and they make money, even today.
