Pilot, I'll try to answer all your questions. We get 1 week after 1 year, 2 weeks after 2 years , 3 weeks after 5 years and tops out at 5 weeks after 10 years. We are paid $52 per day per diem based on how many days out we are. Example, my round trip is 6 days and I'm paid 3 days worth of per diem which equates to 8 cents per mile. So out of .36 p/m 28 of it is taxed and the other .08 is per diem. We don't have any holiday pay. We don't have any detention pay as we do mostly drop and hook. In 4 1/2 months I have never been delayed at the shipper or receiver. Breakdown pay is based on whether or not the truck is in the shop over night. For instance, if you have your truck serviced at the terminal and they need it over night they put you up in a motel up the street from the yard on their dime. I have spent a total of 3 nights in a motel paid for by the company. We don't layover, but if we do they put you in a motel starting the first night. I have been laid over a total of 3 nights during my time here. We get an extra $20 for going into NYC/L.I. and an extra .04 p/m for picking anything less than 500 miles from the terminal. You would average at least 2500 miles p/w and be home every week. Pay scale is .34-.36 p/m. I have averaged 2790 p/w for the 4 1/2 months I've been there and with all the accessoral pay it has averaged out to .38 p/m for me which has come out to an average of $1062 p/w in salary and home every 6 days. They pay for all lumper's if needed and pay the driver $50 to tailgate a palletized load. I'm sure I might be missing something so just ask if you need anymore info.

Here is a quick recap of my miles and earnings for my 41/2 months at Calex,
55,490 paid miles
56,877 total miles
2.5 % difference
2774 paid miles p/w
Laid over 5 days
Home every 6 days
This comes out to an average of $1054.12 per week, or $54,814 for a year. My personal feeling on this is that even though I would like to make more per week, if I add my home time in and never laying over and the fact that I'm able to make plans for my home time for the following week, this is a pretty good job. With the economy SLOOOOWLY getting better I'll take what I have and be very thankful.pilot500 Thanks this. -
Well I have my dispatch for Monday, I got it Christmas Eve morning. Need to deadhead up to Griffin GA. for a drop and hook for a load going up north. Louie my dispatcher sent the info to my truck so I'll go and get all the particulars later. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Thank you so much for finding out if there is an opening in Orlando. I've been praying for something better. Last night I was driving on I 4 south bound, north of Orlando about 11 PM with my wife and we saw a Calex truck and I told my wife maybe that's John's truck. My wife went to Jacksonville to bring me home because dispatch told me to get my own ride home or spend the weekend (friday, sat, sunday) in Jax in my truck. They did not get me a load to orlando but did not let me take the truck; well this week I drove about 2000 miles and every single load was live load and unload and every single load required load and unload during my 10 hours break, according to dispatch " that's OK because you're not moving the truck"....another Heartland driver was unloading with me and he said, that the night before he slept only two hours for being unloading....you can choose between running legal and run 1000 miles a week or less or do whatever they ask you to do and make some money......there are plenty of bad comments about Heartland that I don't want to focus on what has been said many times here...Do you want to send me the info by email or post the info here? About me I had 4+ years driving, Pulling reefers, doubles, Vans, containers, etc. Never in an accident thankfully, and the only ticket I had was a couple years ago for a missing mudflap, the officer was having a bad day and he did not gave a break...I have good recomendations for my previous employers, no more than five jobs in 10 years... no as good as you,
my DAC is clean, have Hazmat, doubles, tankers, etc. I'm easy going and do my best to be very professional, thank you one more time for your help and time with me...Pilot

Happy New Year everyone. Got home around 12:30 this afternoon and will be home until Tuesday night when I need to leave and deliver in Davenport FL Wednesday morning. I have a reefer because produce is now moving down here and was told I will be loading in Belle Glade for one of our good customers back in PA. Oh boy, back to garbage hauling.
