Most companies will wait at least 6 months after an incident to hire. Not everyone is cut out to be a driver, but if you really want to continue and try to get better I have a little advice.
Unfortunately you have put yourself in the position where you’re going to have to eat #### and deal with whatever job you get next for at least a year. So in a month when companies might start thinking about hiring you again, just understand that wherever you go, that’s where you’re going to be for a while, whether it sucks or not.
More importantly, pay attention to everything. Hooking and unhooking, load securement, silly little signs on corners, where your trailer is and what it is doing at all times. I’m not going to say I’ve never oops’d, because that would be a lie, everyone has. The secret is to get better, when I first started I used to practice backing in a mostly empty truck stop during my lunch, even though that was before e-logs were mandatory, you can spare a few minutes every day practicing.
Even if you get a better job, if you keep making mistakes you won’t last long. Take a break and mentally prepare yourself for going back on the road and getting better at the job until next month when you might be hired again. Good luck, do what you need to do and pay attention, but don’t come back and start taking hoods off if you’re not ready.slow.rider Thanks this. -
