i have to agree with alot of ppl on this one. its like being in 5th grade and taking a spelling test and your marked wrong bcuz of not being able to read it. if ppl who only spoke english went to other countries we would have to learn there language. same should go here. good for him he can read a sign the officer clearly couldnt understand him and did what he felt was best. what if something happened to that driver how is someone suppose to help him if he cant speak english or no one can understand him? i would have to agree with the officer he felt it was a hazard and doing his job. hes got to keep everyone safe the truckers, and everyone else on the roads. its simlpe learn to read and speak the language. driving these rigs are a huge responsibility. im over the whole "racist" act.

You know, I've wondered about the DOT regs regarding speaking English for years. I can't count the number of times I have stood in line at a T/S fuel island register waiting while a non-English speaking driver tries to communicate with the cashier!! Very often they end up using their cell phone to call someone at their company who translates for the cashier. IMHO, that is totally unacceptable!! And how about all the accidents with big trucks where the driver could not communicate with the LEO on the scene & a translator had to be called in?? I have read 2 recent news articles involving fatalities where the driver had to have a translator!!

Oh, and BTW, while taking my CDL tests in Dallas, I personally witnessed people taking tests for driving a 4-wheeler that had a translator with them!! We shouldn't be giving out ANY type of driver's license if the person can not communicate in English!!

Ouch. No need to start throwing rocks at those of us who claim the state of AL as 'home'. Many different brogues and accents and regional sayings in the whole of the US, doesn't make anyone more or less of a good citizen because they sound different or you find them hard to understand; maybe they thought the same about you...

Nah..Everyone in the Country can understand what I say. That being "said" everyone also gives me a hard time about my MN accent. No problems at all-until after after that #### movie "FARGO" came to the theaters.:biggrin_2556::biggrin_2559:

And ah..What happened at the port in AL happened. In NO way was I throwing "rocks" at anyone. If you want to be THAT sensitive about it and make an issue where there is none-go ahead. Means nothing to me. I thought it was rather funny myself. :)

One time I was at the Gallup, NM POE waiting for my boss to renew our NM tax permits with my old company and saw first hand the DOT men having a hard time explaining to some of the drivers who didn't have a good grasp in English that it was their NM permit, not their IFTA, that was expired.
