Sorry but ALL of us are. We just don't know when our time is going to be up and how it happens.

That said, here is the thing many are missing, this is an at-will work country with a couple exceptions. You can not claim discrimination (which is stupid the way it has evolved) if you are fired unless there is a clear and unmistakable case to be made that you were fired for your age alone. They can even tell you to your face you are too old but then you have to prove your case.

No company in their right mind is going to fire a good productive driver just because of his age. Especially if he's been with them for any length of time and he's a money maker for them...the company just hopes he stays heathy and interested in working.

some states, can fire an employee for not adhering to dress codes.

Can you be fired for what you wear to work?

In California, employers may fire you for not adhering to the company dress code. However, they are not allowed to infringe upon your right protected by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA). Most California employees are aware that their employer can make them follow a company-mandated dress code.

Can I Get Fired Based On My Appearance in California?

What are the termination laws in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island is an employment-at-will state, which means that without a written employee contract, employees can be terminated for any reason at any time, provided that the reason is not discriminatory and that the employer is not retaliating against the employee for a rightful action.

Can you be fired for the way you dress?
There is no federal law that prohibits employers from firing employees based on their dress or tattoos.Dec 1, 2022

Can I Be Fired Because of My Dressing Style or Tattoo?

when i ran the repair garage, i took applications for a mechanic, and a gas jockey..

if they had long hair, or beards, i didn't hire them.

i needed to have them present themselves in a professional manner.

So what about airline pilots forced to leave at age 65 ? My buddy just "retired" and was able to get unemployment (under PA law) because he is able to work physically and mentally, but was retired due to age per federal regulations. He could still fly something other than a Part 121 airline, just could not continue working for a regular airline.

My company I'm leased to has an age limit, and I am approaching it soon myself. I have no plan to retire as O/O unless my tractor craps out. Even then I have a private company lined up as a backup.

Long hair and beards can be a safety issue(I’ve seen pictures of the remains of a person who’s hair got caught in a PTO shaft, a gruesome sight).
When I was hired on with a tanker company beards were not allowed due to the fact we had to be able to use a full face respirator. They have apparently not enforced it in the last few years.

The FAA is starting to reconsider that ridiculous rule. I know several pilots who had to retire at 65. A couple run marathons and are healthier than a lot of 20 year olds.

It sounds like you are advocating for a typical "one size fits all" solution, that at a specific age no one should be allowed to drive a truck ? If so shouldn't that same restriction apply to all drivers, since that same "old" driver could plow into an 80,000 lb truck and cause it to wreck and kill may people ? Any vehicle could potentially kill someone (to use your words). Remember there are way more people in cars than trucks, and a lot more older drivers in them than trucks.

How exactly do you determine this one age that applies to everyone? Where is the proper vetted scientific research on this, not just personal opinion and anecdotal evidence ? (And please not a 'government study' !)

Certainly you are not implying that all companies give a #### about their drivers and prioritize retention ?
