Personally, I am leaning towards reefer when I get to that point. You can haul temp controlled loads as well as dry van if needed.

    MNdriver Thanks this.

I read somewhere that the broker is REQUIRED to disclose the contract terms to the carrier if requested. I cannot cite proof of that however.

yes, there was a thread regarding that here a couple of weeks ago. There is a fed law regarding that, but not much "teeth" to it.

    Can you Add...Subtract....Multiply...Divide?

Can you use a computer program such as Quickbooks?

I know you can.....So you then can figure out what it would cost you per mile and per day to run a successful business...

Believe it or not....The more successful O/O's we have....The better the rates will become.....

The reason why rates get low...Is because we have too many Bottom-feeders who think a tarped heavy lumber load paying $1/m, is the only way to make a living.....:biggrin_2558:

So you are going to buy what they say?....These are the same people who will tell you that a load of lumber from CanFor (Bellingham, WA) tarped and weighing 50K on the gross....Going to the Lowes DC in Rialto, CA...Paying $1200 TTT is a "Great Rate".....And you trust them to disclose the actual gross rate again?

Dump truck brokers are required by Cali law to pay the carrier within 30 days of receipt of the carrier's B/L and invoice......Ever hear of "post dating"?

See? Arent you glad I started this post? :biggrin_25525:

Knowledge is power ! It does all boil down to math in the end. The rest are just numbers.

Doesnt matter if your expenses are 1 dollar or 1million a week, as long as you cover them with enough revenue, 3 dollars or like 3million a week, it's all just numbers.

Dealing with brokers you see the "Snakes" and the "dummies"....
The "Snakes" will try to sell you on a cheap rate....

The "Dummies" are the type that will tell you they set up an appointment time for 0700 and then when you arrive at the shipper....It's FCFS.......

They will also think you can drive from Long Beach, CA to El Paso, TX....In less than legal hours.....

I called on a load that paid over $2K just to do that.....And it was not for a team....I was supposed to pick up at 1600 from Long Beach....and be in El Paso for an 0600 drop the next morning....

Broker said he had drivers that did that all of the time....

BTW....Long Beach to El Paso is over 800 miles....
How many of you can leave the LA metro with a Thursday afternoon commute and be in El Paso by 0600 MST legally?
