Odessa didn't earn its nickname, Ho-dessa, by having a shortage of women.

There is, however, a shortage of single women. But many of the married women "entertain visitors" during the daytime while their husbands are at work.

Exactly. Each driver determines if the pay and conditions are worth doing that job, any job. There are exactly as many drivers in trucking as pay and conditions attract. No driver shortage.

The illusion of a driver shortage is possible because of the massive turnover in the industry, particularly among the megas.

The only common denominator in a persons life is other people. Do you think you would be a bad driver if there were no other motorists?

Some people would be. Even on a deserted road some people would still be driving with their feet on the dashboard, looking at their phone, etc.

The advantage of being a Chicken Hauler or Bull Hauler is you don’t have to deal with a safety department.
If I hit a gator it usually meant buffing out the rubber smear on the chrome Texas bumper and replacing a chicken light or two on my dime.

    Today I had interviews.

Most of the drivers had no issues with their road tests. Almost all of them were under 28.

I had a few who were sent packing because they could either not back the trailer up in a wide spot or like the guy who claimed to have a million miles of safe driving, drove out of the parking spot after hooking up the trailer, making a very sharp right turn and taking out the front of the truck sitting in the spot next to where the trailer is. This happened with two drivers, and it isn't like these guys are under pressure to drive the truck.

This gut was all defensive and pissy like some child who thinks he is being blamed for everything. I said it was cool the truck he hit was a scrapper put there just for this purpose and it's been hit 4 times now. He said something about being union and this would not happen in a union shop so I told him the shop down the road is hiring forklift operators, it is a UAW shop, go apply and added that I hope he doesn't drive the forklift like he drove the truck.

I had another one who wanted to inspect the trucks she will be driving to see what model Microwave and tv it has in it. She also wanted to know how the APU worked so she would not sweat at night. I have no clue what she wanted to know this for but I told her she is doing local work do a day cab doesn't have those things in it, so she asked if I could put them in for her.

God help us with some of these drivers.
