Stopped at a small fuel stop in PA. Just before dark. Went to leave and had no trailer lights. When I checked I found someone had helped themselves to my light cord. I guess they needed it more than I did.
I had someone steal my dad s pickup while I was on the road. I parked it at a local garage to pick up my truck to hit the road. I came back off the road, and noticed it was gone. Why would someone steal an almost 40 yr old pickup?
For parts. Back in 2005 when I lived in Hammond, Indiana I had a 1989 Dodge Aries 2 door coupe with 2.2 liter engine and 5-speed manual(last year for the Aries)and at that time I was planning to restore it(2 door versions were rare- manual transmission models even more so).Car was stolen from in front of my house. Police found it a week later minus engine, transmission, seats instrument panel, wheels, lights. They even took the wiring harness. At that time there were plenty of K cars running around so I wouldn't be surprised if my car was considered a "parts candidate".
I had that happen once too. Was at a shipper actually. Couldn't believe anybody would steal such a stupid part. Someone stole the tandem pin puller rod off an old Great Dane van I was pulling not too long ago. That one really had me scratching my head.
The wash guys/mechanics at a carrier I worked for back in the early 90s used to have a habit of getting into my cellophane packets of CHICLET style chewing gum. I fixed that habit by leaving a similar looking package of chewable laxatives in its place for a while when I came in off of a trip. Problem solved.
1997 in Joliet, IL, I was bobtail at a motel, and had my mudflaps stolen, brackets and all. The guys at the Chicago terminal were not surprised--"Happens all the time, bud. We've replaced a pallet load of 'em this year." Some people's kids.......
