If you take a year or more off, your experience "expires" and you forget how to drive. You have to go pay someone for a refresher so they can teach you all over again. J/K.... But if you just keep driving til you have enough "savings" to sit out a year you should be alright. I don't think they mind a year off after TWENTY years of steady workin. BTW - the whole refresher thing is a money rackett. NEVER go to a company for "skoolin" unless they have a "no pay" guarantee or they guarantee you a job on completion. Too many of them just wanna "sell training" nowadays.
As often as we bad mouth driving, I'd rather be in a cab then have an office cubicle and listen to all the gossip. It gets in your blood if you were meant for it, like a ###### habit you love and cant quit.
Your still stuck on that 50K a year, aren't ya! did that commercial come on again telling you that? The commericial has to be true after all.
b/c lupe wants to make these big bucks right out of the gate!(At least keeps believing these commericals/advertisements yada yada yada) Go search the threads that lupe starts.....read them, you'll understand what im talking about....
I do know of one gentleman that does that. He drives a truck for a year and saves all that money. Then he'll drive a ship for a year, and save all that money. Then he'll drive a train for a year, and save all that money. Then starts all over again. He says that after 6 years he'll be able to retire. Sounds pretty sweet to me !!!!!!
Which company does he drive for? How much to they pay? Which kind of ship does he "drive"? How did he get into it? What school did he go to and how much did it cost? What is the name of the admissions officer at the school? What is the best ship company to work for? How much does it pay? Can you find me a forum or website about this profession? I did just this, and came across this. (truckershomebase.com). Is this legal? I know state income tax isn't huge, but it would be nice to not pay it! Sorry, not trying to hi-jack or derail the thread. I don't want to start a thread just for this though.
