I dont normally recommend it. But try it and see if your boost issue disapears. It won't hurt a thing for a test run.

    cmrdev Thanks this.

I plugged off the line on a BXS C15. Overspeed on the high pressure turbo was a bit of a problem at first, until i figured out how to drive it. If he runs it like a mechanical engine, puts his foot down and lets up a bit and let the ecm fuel the engine, he should be good. These turbos have been blowing up 70psi of manifold for over 3yrs now. Can't have hurt them much.

Well I removed the actuator and the wastegate moves free as a bird. Also took exhaust pipe off to get a visual of the gate. So I just need to find a company online that can get me the actuator this week

So is this truck gonna feel like a whole new animal when I put my new wastegate actuator on? being since I had that massive airleak coming through the diaphragm?

I have new actuator on the way but have a question about wastegates now that I have had to learn a bit about them. Why is it bad to run with no wastegate function when it seems like lots of cat and cummins guys installing aftermarket non wastegated turbos and the manufactures claiming its safe?

Wastegated turbos generally have a very small restrictive exhaust housing. They did this to aid in spool up and low rpm torque. The wastegate is there to relieve the engine of excess back pressure at higher rpm. Also it bypasses the exhaust energy around the turbine as to not over speed the turbo.

When people put non WG turbos on they generally have bigger turbines along with bigger A/R housings. Over speed and exhaust restriction is not a issue if turbo is sized correctly for the HP.

This is why it is a no no to block off your WG with added HP. Puts the turbo into over speed and if abused enough they will explode.

Thanks for the response and clearing that up for me because I do want to buy a new turbo and preferably a non wastegate upgrade when I do but don't want to shorten the life of the motor.

If you want to put a non WG turbos on your truck I would recommed a borg warner 171701. If you plan on adding more fuel go with a 171702.

Should be able to source a brand new one for about $700 .

    SAR and cmrdev Thank this.

Well ill just go ahead and write that borg warner part number down in my desk right now. Don't plan on adding more fuel. Just want a slight upgrade

Just thought I would follow up on this thread. These original equipment actuators sell for 250 bucks. The only other place I could find them is from a company called Naples turbo. They second day air ups the part for me for 10 bucks. The actuator cost like 69 bucks. This actuator Takes 2 more pounds of boost to open up. They have the specs for the original equipment. Anyhow, Upon install the next day and pulling a load up hill, truck is boosting super fast and getting steady 27 psi. Was very impressed all day. In the picture is the old one in my hand obviously and the new one installed
