Had to wait a little while (the place was actually one of those Urgent-Care type establishments) but in the end got a new 2-year medical card (heck the old one was only 2 months old). They were supposed to fax the results to the company today.
Called my recruiter and let him know all went well and now what are the chances of getting in the 20 Feb Orientation. He said "50-50." Then he said, "Wait - you're flatbed... Make that 60-40 to the good." He said he'd let me know by tomorrow afternoon. He also said he'd confirm the rental car in time and that I didn't have to drive the whole way in one shot - they will pay up to $35 for a motel on the way.
So I am packing now just in case, since if it is on Monday, I would leave on Saturday to get there comfortably.
Ok... where's that confounded gear list....

Home Time - wasn't that a Tim Allen show? Oh wait, that was Home Improvement. Saw him at a theater in Dallas many years ago before his fame got into high gear. Must have been about 1988 or 9-ish. I about fell on the floor laughing so hard. His unrecorded live shows were flat out hilarious - much more graphic language that what was shown on cable TV.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yea - parking during home time.
After the DOT physical I went driving around looking for some places that might work for parking the rig. Found this one nearly empty fenced-in lot right off US-1. There were already a couple of trailers in there. No signs other than "no trespassing" and no office building or anything. Asked at the neighboring fuel station. The lady in there said, go ask Mr. XYZ around the corner there at the lumber mill. So I went down the road a few hundred yards and there was a giant lumber mill that I never knew existed. I mean we're talking acres and acres of fat tree logs laying in piles all over the place. Went in the office and the guy in there said I needed to call the owner about parking.
So I called him up and asked him about that fenced lot. "Oh, that's not my lot." Hmmm says I. Then he asked where I live what do I want to do blah blah. We chatted a bit and he said, "OK Come over tomorrow & I'll show you what we got and maybe we can make a deal."
Hope it works out - would really like to have that settled before departure... -
Feeling better about this parking situation as time goes on.
Just talked on the phone with a friend of mine I have known since elementary school. We have not kept in touch very much over the years, but I did make contact with him not too long ago as I was driving by his farm. And that is the cool thing - he has a lot of farm property. His family used to dairy farm - now they mainly rent space for horses. He went to work for the electric company some years back since the farming business hasn't been very lucrative around here. In fact an enormous amount of farmland in this county has been sold off to housing developers in the last 10-15 years.
So given that big milk tankers used to go in and out of the dairy farm every day, it seems logical that my rig could do the same. Anyway he said he would meet me this weekend to scope it.
Between the lumber mill and the farm something should work out nicely.

CONGRATS!I hope the parking thing works out- just make sure that where ever you find a place to park that you check out the weight limits on the route there and back. (I found this out when I noticed the ex was driving his rig on roads and he was over weight! YIKES! go thru city streets!)
There are great threads in the newbie section on what to bring to orientation-you don't want TOO much stuff but on the other hand there are a lof of very important things and documents you have to have!! I can't think off hand of the name of the thread but it's something like 'what to pack for orientation' or something like that. Also someone like Wedge who is still 'newer' at this can tell you what he brought.
Keep up the posts-great read!!!!!!!!Perpetual Thanks this. -
The funny thing is - the packing list I got from the company - was a cut and paste of notarps4me's post from that thread!sammycat Thanks this. -
Nice sunny day here in northeastern MD. Especially compared to yesterday's hectic running around in the rain. Looking forward to checking out the potential parking situation near the lumber mill.
Personal gear is laid out for the orientation - trying to pare it down to the essentials so as not to inconvenience the trainer during Phase 2.
Stay safe and have fun

Hey perpetual!!
Did you see about using a soft sided bag like a duffel bag?
The ex took a suitcase-much harder to cram in the sleeper!! Found out too late too.....
talk to some newbies who have just started to get some ideas what they took- Wedge or Markus come to mind. Markus has only been a short short while out now in his own truck. (Wedge is an 'old' hand almost -
