Yeah, I hear ya. One tractor I have has 24.5 high rubber with 3.55 rears. That one I needed to lower the leveling valve by 1in. Which puts me up at 13'6 1/2. The other tractor I have has a c-15 with 3.36 rears and 24.5LPs. Did not need to change anything height wise with that. And both trucks run well together at 74 mph. I would get some more info from these guys and tell them your concerns and what you need. Plus work that into your deal, maybe they can accommodate or at the least swing you a better deal because you need to sink money into the tractor right away, split the difference or something.
From what I've read they are pretty good to deal with. A guy posted that he wanted one of their trucks but it had a brand new set of super singles. He didn't want them so they took the wheels and tires off and put a new set of duals on the drives. Didn't charge him anything. I doubt they have some 24.5s laying around though but it is worth a try.
i have a c15 with 3.36 rears and 22.5 i run 1500rpm doing 65mph i wonder what kind of rpm you getting running 74mph? .my truck is a ten speed and was thinking about putting a 13 speed so i can run little faster while keeping the rpm at 1500
74 mph puts the tractor at 1375rpm. At 1500 rpm your into 82 mph range, and late at night when the temperature is right, you will find triple digits. Had to find a special speedometer from the factory to accommodate. But the best fuel mileage is between 72-74 mph, 7.3 mpg. I normally don't haul very heavy, so that helps the mpg.
The 22.5s and the 10 spd is kinda hurting your 1500 rpm speed. What trans is it? 18910a or super 10? Or something else?
You don't have a bad set-up. But your motor has much more power that your not letting her use. The 10 spd is a well built trans. But in all honesty the 13 spd is a better all around trans. Your gears on the bottom side will be the same, so you won't lose any of your bottom power. The difference will be on the highway when you start splitting the gears with the 13 you'll stretch the truck out more and your final drive will be lower resulting in higher speeds at lower rpm which is the goal on the highway. The direct drive is hurting you.
i run from pa to the midwest all the time and a i like to be able to split the top gear to get over the hills on i80 and then once i hit ohio i can keep my rpm lower to save some fuel.what 13 speed should i put on?
