How much would I make as a new driver with them per week. They are saying roughly 825 per week after training. Is this about right of way off? thanks

I lost most of my driving experience because none of the civilian trucking companies want to accept my military driving time because I was operating without a CDL at that time. Now that I am a civilian they say that since I have not driven or used my CDL since I completed the CDL training course back in 2008 that I have to go through training all over again.

Well, it's been 17 years since I drove for Knight so what you hear from me is not "new" news but if I were you I would check out all the forums you can here at Truckers Report. Search for Knight Transportation. Don't just go by what the company rep tells you. I would also advise you to go to the nearest truckstop and ask Knight drivers how many miles they are getting and what is their average pay. If you're willing to run hard and stay legal, you should be able to get at least 2800 miles per weeek. I myself will probably be returning to trucking in the next 6 months or so and I will be asking any company I am interested in what kind of miles I can expect to average. If they reply with anything less then 2650, they're off my potential list of future employers. If they give me a number higher then that, I will be checking with what other drivers report on one of the forums here.

Let me say a few more things here about Knight.
They are not all in all a bad company and you could certainly do worse.
Most trucking jobs are exactly what you will read on different forums here over and over. Most of the time it will be how you react to difficult times.
Most companies (and this probably includes Knight) you drive for you will have good weeks and bad weeks so it will be what you make of it.

Knight Transporation might not be a bad place to get started or re-started (even for me). When I drove for them last, they had good equipment and they do treat their drivers with respect. I have checked the CDL Training program they offer and if you wanted to use their 0% financing option, it sounds like your only committed to them for a year (compared to Swift who will ask you to commit for 26 months). Swift Acadaemy: $3900. Pay back over 26 months Starting Pay .25 mile after training gradually increasing to .32 mile after 1 year. Knight's Program is $2500. ($3000 if you need hotel/transportation) Pay back at 50. week (50 - 60 working weeks) Starting Pay after training .33-.42 per mile depending on length of haul). I don't know about their increases yet.

I may try to go with Knight when I return (providing they will have me of course) and stick it out for a year and then see what my options are.

that is pretty much what they told me on the telephone the other day. about the training and lodging thing. the monthly deduction is 50.00 but you can opt for more to lessen the contract or at least that is what I have been told and have in writing as of right now. I just need a good job that I can turn into a great career. Trying to stay clear of reenlisting in the military if I can but I will do what I feel I have to do though.

Commenting on the $50.00 month.... Are you sure it's not $50.00 per week? I'm thinking $50.00 per week.
Also, if you can handle driving mostly nights, and you live in or don't mind relocating to the hiring area for Tyson Foods, you might want to check them out. You will have to go to one of their approved schools and after that you go through 8 weeks of training at $400. week. Then you start out at .39 mile. I hear they are averaging around 2800 miles each week. For myself, I have pretty much narrowed it down to 3 companies. Knight Transportation, Tyson Foods, or Con-Way Truckload. It will be a tough decision. Fortuantely, I don't have to make my decision until December (I hope).

yes I am sure I have it in writing for 50.00 per month. Not per week. I would pay it either way though just to get started in the industry again. My problem is I don't want to relocate because of my family. I will only relocate if I reenlist in the military. I have to wait 6 months to raise my credit score before I can reenlist though. That's why I am looking for a job. Just to pay on some bills to raise that score. I am required to have a credit score of at least a 600 to get my security clearance otherwise I wont get the job that I want.

Scratch Scneider. Last I heard they don't offer CDL training.

Yup Schneider requires you to already have your cdl, then you go through more training with them.. but that's with any company.

I checked in with Schneider and they told me whether or not I have a CDL does not matter because I have not driven a truck since I got out of CDL school they will not hire me at all.

Please, whatever you do, don't go with CR England. You are better off being unemployed than to work for them, seriously.
