I never stayed there, never get there anymore, either, that gets cross docked to a company headquartered there.

I wasn't aware of the New Madrid fault being that close, though the main one, the Mid American fault is where the Mississippi River runs. It's not that far from.where I live.

New Madrid borders across the north side of the boot heel and extends southwest into northeast Arkansas, rice country.

Memphis is much closer to it than St.Louis.

The flooding mentioned about Cairo, IL was made worse by it being so widespread, and control measures that sacrificed that locality to minimize overall damage.

I wouldn't want to live in that whole area. The other end of the Avenue of the Saints is much preferable, even with Minnesota's winters.

I'm not that well studied on the subject but some say when it hits it will be a dandy .
The last one in about 1911 the Mississippi river ran backwards and the soil boiled .
Hope I'm not on a bridge when it happens .

Reelfoot Lake was formed when the Mississippi ran backwards during the quake. I had an acquaintance in Memphis, well near there, who told me all about it, 1800s something was when the big quake was, it rang church bells in Boston, among other places.

The Anchorage Alaska of 1964 quake shook up our steel water cistern enough that the water was rusty for nearly 2 weeks.

That was the most powerful in US history.

I’ve been waiting for West Memphis to fall into the Pacific ocean and drown Snowman. Now it looks like my dream may become a reality.

If we get a big New Madrid quake it can topple buildings in Boston...
    .
it’s rare? We have a better chance of Yosemite erupting.

You mean Yellowstone, the super caldera, said to be the largest volcano in the world?

I know, Yosemite starts with 'Y', too. It only rang church bells in Boston, not sure how far away buildings were damaged, that was over 200 years ago.

I can remember in the mid 90s when that big quake hit california it knocked out some power grids as far away as Idaho... I think it may have set off smaller quakes in the Idaho area that helped contribute to this. But a very large quake could set off a chain reaction that could trigger other quakes both small and large acriss the continent and beyond.
