Does anybody know if I can get my learner's permit in Ohio but road test for the CDL in Georgia, or would I have to CDL test in Ohio if that's where I got the CLP? I'm getting rid of my apartment in Ohio as soon as I have a CDL in hand. My parents live 5 minutes from Millis in Cartersville so it would work out perfect to go through them down there vs doing the hotel stay up here. I'll use their address for mail and to store a few things there once I'm OTR
If I can get it done up here it would be one less thing to do down there, that's all. Plus I'm 2 minutes from the DMV I could knock it out during a lunch break. I've been back and forth with them a few times, I saw Steve down in Cartersville a couple days ago, he was great. Calling recruiting back after work today I'll double check with them
I've asked this question with a number of recruiters. The standard answer was that the CDL test has to be done in the state the CLP is issued in. That being said... FMCSR 383.79. "The State of domicile of a CDL applicant must accept the results of a skills test administered to the applicant by any other State". So according to this, if you take the CDL test in Georgia, you'll have to go back to Ohio to have the state issue the CDL. Then you'd have to go back to Georgia and do the paperwork and pay the fee to transfer your Ohio CDL to Georgia. I don't know if that's easier than just getting a Georgia license and retaking the CLP test in Georgia.
